A Quote by Leo Tolstoy

vegetarianism is the taproot of humanitarianism. — © Leo Tolstoy
vegetarianism is the taproot of humanitarianism.
I'm not going to comment on whether I support vegetarianism or non-vegetarianism; it's just that I feel I'm fit because I'm a vegetarian.
I advance no exaggerated or fanciful claim for Vegetarianism. It is not, as some have asserted, a "panacea" for human ills; it is something much more rational - an essential part of the modern humanitarian movement, which can make no true progress without it. Vegetarianism is the diet of the future, as flesh-food is the diet of the past.
The hatred of truth is the taproot of violence.
I'm no shrinking violet. I played hockey until half my teeth were knocked down my throat. And I'm extremely competitive on a tennis court. . . But that experience at the slaughterhouse overwhelmed me. When I walked out of there, I knew I would never again harm an animal! I knew all the physiological, economic, and ecological arguments supporting vegetarianism, but it was firsthand experience of man's cruelty to animals that laid the real groundwork for my commitment to vegetarianism.
Peace, tremulous, unexpected, sent a taproot out of nowhere into Morgan's heart.
Sometimes the taproot and the vines are far apart. Like English and the Asian poem.
Vegetarianism is a link to perfection and peace. But it's a small link. There are lots of other issues: apartheid , vivisection, political prisoners, the arms race. There's so much going on in this world today, so much ignorance among people. That's not to say I'm not standing amongst everybody. But the point is, what can we do now? That's the thing about vegetarianism; it's an individual's decision and it's something you have control over. How many things do we really have control over?
Humanitarianism is rude.
Judeo-Christian revelation is not the negative influence secularists proclaim it to be. Rather, it is the taproot of our civilization.
Humanitarianism is the expression of stupidity and cowardice.
Play is the taproot from which original art springs. It is the raw stuff that the artist channels with all his learning and technique.
Humanitarianism consists in never sacrificing a human being to a purpose.
Humanitarianism is commendable, but not when you're demanding that others share the burdens and expense.
The ideal in Martial Arts is humanitarianism. Accomplishment uses diligence as a goal.
As long as there are slaughterhouses there will be battlefields. A vegetarian diet is the acid test of humanitarianism.
... man was not born a carnivorous animal, but born to live on the fruits and herbs that the earth grows. I know we must all err. I would give up milk if I could, but I cannot. I have made that experiment times without number. I could not, after a serious illness, regain my strength, unless I went back to milk. That has been the tragedy of my life. But the basis of my vegetarianism is not physical, but moral. If anybody said that I should die if I did not take beef tea or mutton, even on medical advice, I would prefer death. That is the basis of my vegetarianism.
