Before the 'Fast & Furious' promo in Manila, I went on a vacation in the Philippines 10 years earlier. I loved it. My 'Miss Saigon' friends showed me around.
'Fast And Furious 7' was quite random. I remember that it was the first holiday that I took in the entire year. I was in Mussoorie for two days with my friends when I got a call from my international PRs asking me to audition for 'Fast And Furious 7.'
I remember performing one-man reenactments of Miss Saigon' for my grandmother on her fireplace or dancing to Gwen Stefani in our hotel in the Philippines.
I was 17 when I auditioned for 'Miss Saigon.' I really grew up doing that show. I pretty much knew, almost a year into 'Miss Saigon,' that I was going to be a performer, that I was going to be singing and acting.
'Miss Saigon' was my first professional show. It was one of the first regional productions of 'Miss Saigon.'
I may have done an every-night gig in Hong Kong because I was there for almost 16 years, and in Manila, Philippines, I did gigs there.
I actually quite miss being called Philippines because in the pageant it's normal for us to be called our country instead of our names. If somebody goes, 'Philippines!' I turn my head and I know that's me. Now they go 'Pia' or 'Miss Universe.' Of course that's better. But I also miss that, being called my country.
When I was making the 'Fast and Furious' movies, I wasn't trying to make a 'Fast and Furious' movie.
I think that Manila is underrated in terms of food in the Philippines.
There is so much more to the Philippines than just Manila. The beauty is in the neighboring islands.
And don't worry, if I get thrown in jail in Manila, Beyonce will just bail me out. Sold out night 2 in the Philippines. I love it here!
I came from the Philippines and Filipinos are incredibly musical. I mean the best cover bands in the world come from Manila!
I really actually started when I was 10 years old, but before that, I loved to play with Father because he played as an ex-player. I just enjoyed it, so I started at 10 years old with Father to be a proper football player.
This year, I'm most thankful for the people around me who've supported me—my friends, and my family and boyfriend. It's been a really crazy year. There have been a lot of changes with moving to America and a lot of adjustments for my family and friends in Australia to let me go off on this journey and miss me a lot. I miss them a lot, but am so grateful for them.
'Fast and Furious' is the only franchise that I've directed that I did not create from scratch. So it definitely was an eye-opening experience for me coming to that world. I had to be respectful of the roles that had been established by the filmmakers before me, and I was cool with that.
'Miss Saigon' taught me what it means to help carry a big show, and it had some of the most gorgeous songs wrote.
There's good news and bad news about 2 Fast 2 Furious, the moronic follow-up to The Fast and the Furious and a contender for the worst movie of 2003. The good news is that it's better, albeit marginally, than Freddy Got Fingered. The bad news is that it's 15 minutes longer.
