We live in a global society, and I don't think we can talk about, quote unquote, 'American themes' anymore.
Roddenberry had his own utopian vision about he perfectibility of man, and I never really believed that. And I don’t think the show demonstrates that. I think it is about gunboat diplomacy. In the final analysis, the Enterprise fires. They’re always shooting and bringing civilization, and coming to worlds where they don’t approve of tyrannical enterprises – no pun intended – and they substitute their own quote unquote enlightened version of how society is supposed to work, which is essentially American.
I don't think I live the lifestyle that's expected of a quote unquote R&B artist. I'm just not that dude.
The only basis for even talking about global warming is the predictions spewed out by computer models. The only quote/unquote "evidence" of global warming is what models are predicting the climate and the weather will be in the next 50 to 100 years. Now, what those models spit out is only as good as the data that's put in, and it's an absolute joke. In terms of science, it's a total joke. There is no warming, global or otherwise!
Quote/Unquote and you can quote me on the quote/unquote.
I think feminism has always been global. I think there's feminism everywhere throughout the world. I think, though, for Western feminism and for American feminism, it not so surprisingly continues to center Western feminism and American feminism. And I think the biggest hurdle American feminists have in terms of taking a more global approach is that too often when you hear American feminists talk about international feminism or women in other countries, it kind of goes along with this condescending point of view like we have to save the women of such-and-such country; we have to help them.
Only the out of touch media elites think the biggest problems facing America - you know this, this is what they talk about, facing American society today is that there are 11 million illegal immigrants who don't have legal status. And, they also think the biggest thing, and you know this, it's not nuclear, and it's not ISIS, it's not Russia, it's not China, it's global warming.
I don't care what we're quote-unquote selling; we're about inspiring people through storytelling.
There is always something about the villains that I'm able to play, quote unquote, that isn't villainous.
To make an absolutely gross generalization, I think a lot of people feel like if you're mixed, more often than not you're quote unquote white. So if you're mixed, you embrace the mainstream culture more than the African-American culture.
I think a lot of quote-unquote 'comedic actors' really go for the laugh and are overly straining and sort of trying.
I fall into that nebulous, quote-unquote, normal American woman size that legions of fashion stylists detest. For the record, I'm a size 8 - this week, anyway. Many stylists hate that size because I think to them, it shows that I lack the discipline to be an ascetic; or the confident, sassy abandon to be a total fatty hedonist.
I don’t even think of myself as a quote, unquote star - that’s really douchey. I think of myself as just like . . . a dance commander.
I don't think people give Indian society enough credit. We may not like to talk much about things but we do, basically, want to live and let live.
I think we, especially in American culture, are so afraid to talk about death. And I'm not talking about literal death. I'm talking about shedding skin. I'm talking about rebirth, ultimately, and how we continue to change as human beings and continue to grow. There's that great Henry Miller quote, "All growth is a leap in the dark."
There aren't a lot of films about adolescents or quote-unquote coming-of-age films that are realistic nowadays.
I have a lot of fun playing quote unquote villains because I think the bad guys get to have more fun, right?
