I wanted to leave Dortmund in Dortmund and not think about spending time with Jurgen when I chose a new club. That was partly a reason for me not to go to Liverpool.
Just like every person who works for Dortmund is a fan of the club, it was the same at Mainz. When I was a player there, we had 800 supporters on rainy Saturday afternoons, and if we died, no one would notice or come to our funeral. But we loved the club, and we have this same feeling at Dortmund.
I do not necessarily want to play for the best team in the world. I would prefer to win the Champions League with Dortmund than six with another club.
The only club that could lure me away from Dortmund is Real Madrid.
Borussia Dortmund are a huge club and the idea of replacing Lewandowski really appeals to me.
I really felt Dortmund was the right club for me. They spoke to me and said the right things I wanted to hear.
Dortmund is a great club.
Dortmund is my home; BVB is my club.
I used to play for Dortmund, I have friends there and the fans know me so I want to experience that dread of going to that stadium as the away team and I'd like to see how Dortmund would react.
I was very well received by Dortmund, by the whole club. I felt a lot of love; a footballer is stronger when he has confidence.
I have said in the past that I dream of playing in Spain, but Dortmund has become my second home. I love this club, its fans, and this city.
When I left the club, I said in an interview that my chapter with Borussia Dortmund was not over. I just wanted to realize my dream of playing in the Premier League.
I was disappointed not to be able to sign [for Barcelona] last season. When the best club in the world calls you, then it is something that you want to happen. I have signed for the only club who really wanted me. In no moment did I ever think that Inter was a possibility. Rafa valued me and perhaps that is why people started saying that I could go there but this is the only club that pushed to sign me.
Dortmund is a fantastic club, critical for my career. But my Spanish grandfather on my mother's side always wished that I play in Spain. And if, then at Real Madrid.
A few people weren't sure when I first told them about Dortmund, but I felt this was the best journey for me. Just try it, you know? I like trying new things, so it didn't really faze me.
To be honest, my time at Dortmund wasn't a big success. I didn't settle well at the club and eventually moved on to Sevilla. But I am forever grateful about it because it gave me the opportunity to work with Jurgen Klopp. If I didn't go to Germany, I would never have had a chance to work with him.
