The theater is a communal event, like church. The playwright constructs a mass to be performed for a lot of people. She writes a prayer, which is really just the longings of one heart.
When I put something into motion, the creativity starts to make other people want to jump in, and then a lot of people get employed. I'm just like a shark, in that way. If I stop swimming, I'll die. You lose yourself, and at the same time come to the realization or understanding that you're part of something bigger than yourself.
I think a playwright must be his own dramaturg. I believe in a theater where the director and the playwright work together to create what they need.
