In training, for example, when you feel your position on the team is in danger then you have to be fully focused.
I never want to lead a team that is not allowed the freedom to pursue what's in their hearts. If you want your team to be fully committed, then you'd better be fully committed
If I can just accept it and tic when I want to and have my passion project - what I'm mentally, physically, emotionally invested in something - where you're fully focused, and your body parts and mind are all moving toward this one goal, you're focused, and you can shut it off, but only for a certain period of time. Then, you have to let loose.
When you don't play, you need to support the team and your team-mates need to feel that you are behind them fully.
As always I am focused on training and coaching my team.
The goal of an effective leader is to recondition your team to be solution focused rather than problem focused.
Indeed, your biggest challenge may be to fully harness your strengths. You may be so busy trying to appear like a zestful, reward-sensitive extrovert that you undervalue your own talents, or feel underestimated by those around you. But when you’re focused on a project that you care about, you probably find that your energy is boundless.
I think that the best training a top manager can be engaged in is management by example. I want to make sure there is no discrepancy between what we say and what we do. If you preach accountability and then promote somebody with bad results, it doesn't work. I personally believe the best training is management by example. Don't believe what I say. Believe what I do.
I still wanted to race in Formula One, for a correct team, a nice team, one that is professional, where you would feel important. But there was no position for me to carry on, so I felt if that opportunity wasn't there, then it would be better for me to stop, and start thinking about doing different things.
Communication is something that I find if don't do, I will go missing, I won't be fully focused. If I'm constantly giving messages to the defenders not only do they know where they are but I am switched on and in the right position. It all links together.
The presence of danger has a way of making you feel fully awake.
You're only as good as your team, so if your team's strong around you, it just puts you in a greater position.
If there's competition in training, then the training is intense, and then you have the pressure of a weekend that if you don't put in good performances, then your place is maybe up for grabs.
If you can't sleep at night because of your stock market position, then you have gone too far. If this is the case, then sell your position down to the sleeping level.
Well, a general danger of punditry is that there's very little incentive to change your position or admit error. If you reverse your position, the people who backed you before will be unhappy, but a lot of the people who now agree with you will still pillory you.
From the beginning to the end of a drama, it's most important that I'm focused on the project that I'm responsible for and feel affection towards it. Then I get faith that the project will end up being good before getting fully engaged in it.
Sometimes you lose the head a bit, and lose your position, when you should be more relaxed and hold your position, which is better for the team.
