In my mind, I slowed down and I feel like I translated it over into my game. — © Michael Carter-Williams
In my mind, I slowed down and I feel like I translated it over into my game.
The game has slowed down for me. It's so much easier than it was. I feel like I see things better, and I can take advantage of what I see.
I understand the plays, the depth, the routes, the splits and everything. I just feel good that I can make some plays. Definitely, the game's slowed down for me.
When my career slowed, I knew deep down it wasn't over.
I feel usually the strength of my game is my driving, and over the past - even since I was in college and everything, my short game has been the thing that's let me down.
It really lasted the whole game, because I was really untouchable, unstoppable that game. But it was heightened on one particular play, and that was the longest run where everything completely slowed down. My awareness was so keen, it was so heightened, it was really amazing.
I definitely take notes, but I feel like sometimes if I take too many notes, it kind of bogs down my mind a little bit. So, I just write down stuff that I need to remember for the game.
There's a ceiling when it comes to genetics. I'm a huge believer in the mind. I feel like anticipation is a key to the success of the game and I feel that's where I thrive. Being able to anticipate, prepare and live in the details of the game.
Once, I was followed by a car when I was driving. Every time I sped up, the car sped up, and when I slowed down, it slowed down. Eventually, I stopped, got out and screamed, 'What do you want?' He said, 'I just wanted to give you some flowers because I'm such a fan.' I felt awful. He was just being kind.
The game's just slowed down for me a little bit and I'm able to read the defenses and see how they're playing me.
A lot of filmmaking is just sort of slowed down by lawyers who feel they're more important than the filmmakers.
I feel like I can be a great defensive player when I put my mind to it for the whole game, not just half the game.
If it's a nationally televised game in the past, and I've been scoring 6, 7 and 8 points, I feel like I had a bad game in my mind.
So is work ethic. You do things over and over again, and when you get in a situation you like to think it comes natural. I think there has to be a mind-set that you’re not afraid to fail. I’m not afraid to fail. I’ve done it quite a bit. The calmer you are, the more the game slows down for you, and I think part of that is controlling your emotions.
I think of every song like a game. It's like a video game: "Okay, I'm going to hop over here and if I press this drum, or if I hit this note, then that doorway opens. Oops, I fell down a trap door but I'm in a whole new world."
I quite like being aggressive and horrible which gives you more confidence to dictate over strikers and to make them feel they have had a frustrating game when they've walked off the pitch, feeling very down.
I always play every game in my mind before it begins. A lot of times in a game, a play will happen, and it will feel like deja vu, like I've seen the play happen before in my mind.
