The UFC was the black spot in my career and my life.
I think I've put in some work and I've fought some tough guys early in my UFC career in order for me to get in that spot of being on the main card.
I didn't know that I would be the UFC champion. Did I intend on being the UFC champ? Yeah, absolutely. I didn't exactly see myself doing this as a full time job or career but I certainly intended for it when I started down this path.
I want to earn my top spot in UFC.

When the UFC announced that 125 tournament, I remember thinking, 'Finally, this is my spot.'
Even though I didn't do as well in the UFC as the rest of my career, I feel like I did everything that I could to have an overall successful career.

What was your life anyway but the tiny black spot of what you've done against the infinite white of possibility?
I have been black and blue in some spot, somewhere, almost all my life from too intimate contacts with my own furniture.
At first, whenever I first got into the UFC, I was like, 'oh my God, I'm in the UFC.' When you come from where I came from, being in the UFC basically meant I was on top of the world.
When I got into the sport and wrote down my goals, it was never to be a UFC main event or to be a on a UFC main card. It was to be the UFC champion.
I knew I'd be in the UFC since I started my career.
Bellator offered me a job. UFC never offered me an opportunity to fight. There's no question that UFC is the top. It's a machine. A lot of people, including myself, have helped build the UFC to where it is today.
