I hear my fans all the time being like, 'Who is Moneybagg Yo?' They want to know who I am. I'm just going to show them all of it.
My fans don't feel like I hold anything back from them. They know whatever I'm going through now, they'll hear about it on a record someday. They'll hear the real story. There's a little bit of lag time. It's not as instant as going on a gossip blog. But it's much more accurate.
I got the name Moneybagg Yo in high school.
I put a lot of work into my mixtapes, and I want everybody to understand I am doing this genuinely. I don't even want to be paid for this; I just want you all to hear my music and appreciate it. I think it brings me closer to my fans because they know I'm doing this for them and not just to get the bucks.
It's hard being in a band. It's hard being in a relationship like that. But at the end of the day, when you have great fans, as corny as that sounds, if the fans show up and the passion that they have, they're the ones that make us want to keep going.
I hear that I dress like a boy and that I should be more girly, which I can understand, but I just focus on what I want to do and enjoy my time with fans who love me for who I am.
I just want my audiences to be entertained and feel like they're part of the show. I want to show them a good time and create an experience they're going to enjoy.
I want my fans to know I'm there for them. I want them to see every part of me. I am never going to leave them.
I don't want to change. I don't ever want to be a stuck-up asshole. I mean, some people probably think I am now, but I don't care what they think, because I know I'm not. I'm a down to earth person. I always have time for my fans. I don't care who they are, what they look like, if they're rich or poor, pretty or ugly. I always have time for them. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for them, and I'll never forget that.
I know fans may not like it, but at the same time, I love to see a guy say, 'you know what, I don't want to be here, and I'm going to force them to trade me.'
Do you know what investing for the long run but listening to market news everyday is like? It's like a man walking up a big hill with a yo-yo and keeping his eyes fixed on the yo-yo instead of the hill.
Show, not tell, right? Action, not words. You don’t want to hear how sorry I am or how things will be different this time. You want to see it with your own eyes. And until I can show you that, you won’t tell me what I want to hear.
Growing up people would tell me: 'Yo, you only can do one thing. If you're going to rap, just rap. If you're going to sing, just sing.' It boxed me in. But I just figured out a way to show everything. It's like if you have a job interview, you want to present as many skills as you have.
The bottom line is fans just want to hear a good song. Some people will look underneath to see who wrote it, but they just want to hear a good song. And if they don't hear it, they're not going to buy it just because you wrote it.
When I was a kid there was a show called 'Holmes & Yo-Yo' about a robot cop. I LOVED that show and I think it only lasted like three episodes.
Ending a sentence with yo, is like saying, I don't want a job. Not today. Not ever. Know what I mean yo?
I used to just think about what my fans wanted all the time. But it just started feeling weird to me. I want to just show everyone who I am and stick to my vision. I have to trust myself.
