Brooding over blunders is the biggest blunder. — © Muhammad Ali
Brooding over blunders is the biggest blunder.
I used to think information was destroyed in black hole. This was my biggest blunder, or at least my biggest blunder in science.
I would like to break out of this "dark, brooding" image, cause I'm actually not like that at all. In Ireland, brooding is a term we use for hens. A brooding hen is supposed to lay eggs. Everytime somebody says "He's dark and brooding" I think: "He's about to lay an egg".
Much later, when I discussed the problem with Einstein, he remarked that the introduction of the cosmological term was the biggest blunder he ever made in his life. But this "blunder," rejected by Einstein, is still sometimes used by cosmologists even today, and the cosmological constant denoted by the Greek letter ? rears its ugly head again and again and again.
I seem to be attracted to the quiet, brooding type. But not too brooding. Too brooding can be narcissistic. Or psychotic.
As Freud has shown, blunders are not the merest chance. They are the result of suppressed desires and conflicts. They are ripples on the surface of life, produced by unsuspected springs. And these may be very deep - as deep as the soul itself. The blunder may amount to the opening of a destiny.
Nature proceeds by blunders; that is its way. It is also ours. So if we have blundered by regarding consciousness as a blunder, why make a fuss over it? Our self-removal from this planet would still be a magnificent move, a feat so luminous it would bedim the sun. What do we have to lose? No evil would attend our departure from this world, and the many evils we have known would go extinct along with us. So why put off what would be the most laudable masterstroke of our existence, and the only one?
Our Irish blunders are never blunders of the heart.
The biggest blunder in the history of this country was when President Truman pulled General MacArthur out of China.
If someone plays a brooding actor in a film, people think they're brooding all the time.
Present day statesmen are making the biggest blunder of the age if they believe that there can be any peace without equity and justice to all mankind.
No destiny attacks us from outside. But, within him, man bears his fate and there comes a moment when he knows himself vulnerable; and then, as in a vertigo, blunder upon blunder lures him.
Much later, when I was discussing cosmological problems with Einstein, he remarked that the introduction of the cosmological term was the biggest blunder he ever made in his life.
It's like the brooding hen sitting over a china egg.
Loneliness will sit over our roofs with brooding wings.
I feel sorry for players who are always lying awake at night, brooding over their games.
He who is ever brooding over result often loses nerve in the performance of his duty.
