Good scripts that are offered to me are few and far between, so I pick the best that I get.
I get offered varied parts, often super sexy roles. But I still think it's an issue to find the good scripts. It's a myth that you win an Oscar and you get more opportunities, and this doesn't just go for me.
I've been fortunate. I don't pick scripts. Scripts pick me.
My m.o. as far as choosing projects is I really try not to work. I try to not do the scripts that are offered me.
My M.O. as far as choosing projects is I really try not to work. I try to not do the scripts that are offered me. I'm in this wonderful position to be able to do that.
I get a trickling few scripts that I'm lucky enough that some of them are great. I don't get loads of scripts.
When I choose projects, I don't stipulate between film or theatre or television. I receive scripts and I read scripts - and when I read a script that's good, I then get married to it and talk to my agent about what happens next.
You can get the best locksmith in the world to design the best lock he can design, is it pick proof? No, it's not: it can be very hard to pick, but it is pickable. Because you can get, say, the next 10 best locksmiths, and give them unlimited money and time, they will figure out a way to pick it.
My m.o. as far as choosing projects is I really try not to work. I try to not do the scripts that are offered me. I'm in this wonderful position to be able to do that. The reason I do that is because I know what it takes once I engage, what that means for me personally and for my wife.
It's nice to finally get scripts offered to me that aren't the ones Tom Hanks wipes his butt with.
Good films that get made are so few and far between. I want to write and direct more, but only so I can keep a fresh perspective.
I always try to pick up interesting scripts, and thankfully, I have been lucky to get scripts like 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama,' 'Akash Vaani', and 'Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety.'
I push to be in good films and good TV shows. I don't really pick and choose. I pick and choose what I will read for, and I've gotten to the point where I'm being offered stuff.
I've always wanted to do non-comedies, I've always done dramas, comedies, music, and I always like to bop around and do different things. I'm looking for something a bit tougher, more muscle mass, something small, but the thing is, I get all the best comedy scripts, I don't get all the best drama scripts. So I'll just go with what's the best script.
A good script is like a work of art in itself. I've read hundreds of scripts, and good ones are very rare. If the writer has something to say, and a voice, and a plot that matches character, and an emotional trajectory that works, then I'd be an idiot to fool around with it. It's just that few scripts ever are like that.
If I am dissatisfied, it's simply because good photos are few and far between. A good photo is a miracle.
I always pick what I consider to be good scripts.
