I always try to get a workout in.
I always say fitness is the first step to greatness. And I try to encourage my fans to be on the same page as that. Because fitness is the first step to setting a habit that you necessarily don't want to do but are still committed to doing every single day. And so I think that's why I always, always try to get a workout in.
I've always been a fan of the home workout. I know a lot of people think that jumping around in your living room is never going to be as effective. But you can get an amazing workout using your bodyweight alone.
After a tough workout, I try to eat lots of proteins and try to have some carbohydrates. Pasta is always good with protein, and I enjoy Bolognese with chicken.
Whenever I am not traveling during the winter, I am pushing hard in the gym. Even when I am traveling, I try to fit a workout in at the hotel. And if the hotel doesn't have a gym? You can get a good workout in your room with an exercise band and some imagination.
I don't have a set routine, but I try to squeeze in a workout every day, whether it's taking a hike, taking a Pilates class, or just putting in a workout DVD. Whatever it takes!
I try to always eat something good like protein pre-workout.
I like to do a mix for my workout because I find that when you do the same workout, you get bored of the gym, and also, it's great to shock your body.
You don't need equipment of any kind to get a good workout in. In fact, you can get a good workout in the smallest of spaces, from a dorm room, to a studio apartment to a hotel room.
I always tell myself, 'There are so many things you regret doing or eating, but you never regret a workout.' I always feel better after a workout. I have more energy, and mentally, I'm in a better place.
I try to not be too hard on myself regarding my diet. I've always been a workout-to-eat kind of a girl.
Even if you have just half an hour, you can get a good workout. So I try to make it count no matter where I am.
The reality is that you think you're going to have all this time out here, to do all this stuff, and the truth of the matter is, you just don't. If we're on the road, and we stay in the city we're in, I'm going to try to get up in the morning and get a workout in.
Try training on an empty stomach, if it is just this kind of resistance training workout, so that your body fat is sacrificed as a fuel source. Then, immediately post-workout, make sure you take in all three of your macronutrients.
I'm from L.A., and when you work out in the day, you usually stay in your workout clothes. So I always liked it where I can go to meetings in my workout clothes and still feel on it and fashionable.
Some weeks, I'm super-duper busy, so I can only fit cardio in here and there, a lot of stuff happens in the afternoon, so I can get up and have a workout, which makes me feel awesome for the rest of my day. There's just something sexy about feeling strong. And every night I'm onstage, I get another workout.
I try to get that across in the work, to try to, if I'm lucky, to make this world a little bit better for all of us before I check out. And that's if I'm lucky, I don't always get to have that privilege but I try always.
