A huge part of my career and how I want to participate in the world is being unapologetically myself and being honest and vulnerable.
I think to be honest, that being is inside. I meet that being in so many people that I meet everywhere in the world and when I do meet that being, in other people, what I want to ask is "How do we keep opening ourselves so that we can become as vulnerable and as willing to live in the deepest complexity and ambiguity and truth that we can?
Interestingly, I matured as a musician and as an artist before I matured as a man. What I mean by that is, I was ready to be completely vulnerable and honest with myself and unapologetic when it comes to how I express myself in my medium. But I wasn't as secure in doing that when it came to just being myself.
I think everything's a part and parcel of being in this profession, rejection being a huge, huge part of it, and I can't tell you how grateful I am for all those rejections because one thing that I understand is that you have to be really, really strong headed, you have to be very level headed, If you want to be in this industry.
