A Quote by R. A. Torrey

I prayed fifteen years for the conversion of my oldest brother. When he seemed to be getting further and further away from any hope of conversion, I prayed on. — © R. A. Torrey
I prayed fifteen years for the conversion of my oldest brother. When he seemed to be getting further and further away from any hope of conversion, I prayed on.
When you go after someone who has a deep ideological belief set that is contradictory with your own, it's conversion. Conversion is hard. Conversion is miraculous. We have entire religions built around the idea of conversion. Politics is not a religion. Politics is about persuasion.
I do make conversion, if conversion means really turning people to God - to have a clean heart and to love God. That's the real conversion.
I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.
Carmen prayed hard. She prayed while standing near the priest in hopes it would give her request extra credibility. What she prayed for was nothing. She prayed that God would look on them and see the beauty of their existence and leave them alone.
The idea seemed to be that if you prayed extremely hard--especially if a lot of people prayed at once--maybe God would change things. The trouble was, what if your enemy was praying, too? Which prayer would God listen to?
There is a class of people who seem to think that if a man should fall overboard into the sea with a Bible in his pocket it would hardly be possible to drown. I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.
Surely conversion is a matter between man and his Maker who alone knows his creatures' hearts. A conversion without a clean heart is, in my opinion, a denial of God and Religion. Conversion without cleanliness of heart can only be a matter of sorrow, not joy, to a godly person.
If conversion makes no improvements in a man's outward actions then I think his 'conversion' was largely imaginary.
Social organizations are flagrantly open systems in that the input of energies and the conversion of output into further energetic input consists of transactions between the organization and its environment.
Always remember that there is no conversion to God if there is no conversion to the oppressed.
'Pears like I prayed all the time, 'bout my work, everywhere, I prayed an' groaned to the Lord.
Pears like I prayed all the time, 'bout my work, everywhere, I prayed an' groaned to the Lord.
When Job was prospering, he prayed. When he was suffering, he still prayed.
I prayed for all his dreams to come true. I prayed that I would always be able to connect with him--even if I was no longer on earth.
The Linux kernel is under the GPL version 2. Not anything else. Some individual files are licensable under v3, but not the kernel in general. And quite frankly, I don't see that changing. I think it's insane to require people to make their private signing keys available, for example. I wouldn't do it. So I don't think the GPL v3 conversion is going to happen for the kernel, since I personally don't want to convert any of my code. You think v2 or later is the default. It's not. The _default_ is to not allow conversion. Conversion isn't going to happen.
Kanye West is my older brother, an inspiring guy and someone who keeps pushing my level up further and further.
