Do not try doing the things that we do one TV in WWE. We're the entertainers, we're the professionals.
For me to be the first African-born WWE Champion is incredible because now, people who look like myself can look at TV and see on WWE television that anything is possible because I'm doing it.
I found ways to maintain my performance through working with professionals and doing things that other people weren't doing. Later in my career, I had a great physical therapist who kept me out on the track. We were doing innovative things like ice baths back in the early '80s when everyone else thought it was crazy.
As professionals, we just try to keep the jokes to a minimum, when we're in a certain situation. When we're not doing that, we're joking.
I'm generally a highly motivated person. I always try and be the very best I can be, so I'm just gonna try and take every day and be the best that I can be, and prove myself to the WWE Universe and the WWE in general, and see how far I can go.
Entertainers have no brain...I get frustrated when I hear things like that from people. We have different goals. We have our own ways. I try to do the best I can, but still.
Most people just half-watch TV. They watch TV while they are doing many other things in the environment of their home. So, what they are doing goes through their ears as much as through their eyes. In television, the narrative and characters are in the foreground of everything, because you are watching TV as you do other stuff.
We do try to be entertainers, but we're musicians first, and we try to showcase the music.
A lot of what I do on WWE TV is what I was doing on the NXT Live events. That wasn't really seen by anybody. But now I get to do it on live television.
I'm not a huge TV person. I don't like having the noise when I'm doing other things unless I'm really lonely, and then I turn the TV on. But I do like to sit down and watch TV in the evenings.
Of course, to be WWE world champion is definitely on my list. Anybody who is not reaching for that proverbial brass ring is doing something wrong if they're in the WWE.
I try and avoid thinking of strategy and I tend to stick to my gun of doing things that I like and try to avoid things that I "should" be doing, and stay true to that.
I never tried to pigeonhole myself. I've been willing to take risks and try doing things like reality TV with 'The Bachelor' or Food Network or 'Good Morning America.'
Even in WWE, you believe it when it happens. Because anything can happen in the WWE at the last minute. Things happen, things change, and decisions are made.
WWE is all about doing things that have never been done.
I'm someone who likes to try new things and take on new challenges. I love making movies, but TV is also great. I really enjoy doing both.
Doing a film and doing a TV show are poles apart. They are two different things, cannot be compared, but I enjoy doing both, as I love what I do.
