As I've gone into soul and soul-land, and I connect with my soul and my ego, and my life is colored by my soul - people can identify from their ego, which is who they thought they are. The soul, which is who they really are, if they choose that transfer to the soul, then you live in an ocean of love.
When you realize that the ego is making you miserable you don't identify with it. You identify with your soul's humility and the ego dissolves.
The ego is frightened by death, because ego is part of the incarnation and ends with it. That is why we learn to identify with our soul, as the soul continues after death. For the soul, death is just another moment.
What does labor want? Unnatural to expect that learning to be happy should be any easier than, say, learning to play the violin or require any less practice.
Not all thinking and all emotion are of the ego. They turn into ego only when you identify with them and they take you over completely, that is to say, when they become "I".
I've found in the past that the more closely I identify with the heroine, the less completely she emerges as a person.
