I'm doing the kind of show that I would want to see.
I want to tell the story. Mostly, when you see rock movies, it has to be this over-the-top thing. I want to give people a Bret Michaels movie where they see that my life is a comedy of errors. I also want to show my fans how to get through the kind of troubles that would leave most people flat on the floor.
It kills me to see people think that, show business is sex, drugs and rock and roll. And I have what you call a meet and greet. I do it before the show. But when I was doing it after the show especially, there would be people who would come back and said, OK, Smoke, where's the party?
If I was doing a talk show, I would do the kind of show that comes on just once a month, with amazing guests.
I'd still like to see 'Survivor' minus the planned show-biz parts. That would be the purest form of show business - I want to see someone so hungry that they eat somebody else's foot.
Like everybody, I started out doing 'bringer' shows - the kind where if you show up with a certain number of people, you get to perform. Sometimes I would actually pay strangers off the street to come in and see my set.
As for the Folsom Prison show, ... would anybody have the guts to do that show now 50 Cent, maybe I think the whole idea of even playing to a crowd of people like that is so politically unfavorable now - it's like, 'What are you doing, singing for these people Do they deserve it' There's such anger in our culture right now, that kind of grace and forgiveness, we don't see that very often.
I would love to have the biggest band that I can have. I'd love to put on a massive show and just give people their money's worth, then just come away from it thinking, 'That was a good show', because it's kind of disappointing sometimes when you go and see someone and you can see they're not that bothered.
For me, I don't want to cheat the game by saying, or kind of doing lip service by saying, I want to be the greatest ever. I want to be able to show it.
Any person that you would want to watch your movie or see your show or read your book, there's a million other things that they could be watching or reading or doing.
I wish they would see the real person in me. One day, they will know I'm not here for the show. My mind do shine. My heart is so kind. But that they can not see because all they see is the outside of me. Who I am, what I do is only the reaction I get from you.
This is my point of view, and that's why I call the show 'Ramy'. I made the show that I would want to see. So it's only going to hit on certain things.
I do think image is important in a band, because when I go see a show, I want to see a show; I don't want to just listen to the music.
I want to see a player on the football field. I want to see what kind of teammate they are, what kind of leadership qualities they have. I want to see how aggressive they are, how much fun they have playing the game.
It would show hugely if I didn't want to be somewhere. Doing what you want to do can only generate good energy.
The cliché about young actors is that they want to diversify the work that they do to show their range, but it's true. Or at least, for me, I want to keep doing different stuff; doing different work, you see different things.
I think I would rather want to create something new, but I really did enjoy doing that show. It was a really fun show to do.
