A Quote by Robert Ballard

I prefer sayings over jokes. — © Robert Ballard
I prefer sayings over jokes.
Either over neither, both over either/or, live-and-let-live over stand-or die, high spirits over low, energy over apathy, wit over dullness, jokes over homilies, good humor over jokes, good nature over bad, feeling over sentiment, truth over poetry, consciousness over explanations, tragedy over pathos, comedy over tragedy, entertainment over art, private over public, generosity over meanness, charity over murder, love over charity, irreplaceable over interchangeable, divergence over concurrence, principle over interest, people over principle.
It's easier to make up sayings people like to hear than sayings they like to heed.
If you take my sayings and explode them in the air, they remain only sayings. But if you fit them together in their correct places, you will have the whole story.
My favorite moments are the moments everyone cries over. I see people in the audience crying, and I go, 'I did that, too. I don't just do the jokes. I also do the cries.' Jokes and cries, jokes and cries. That's all I'm here for, people.
I don't prefer much of film over stage... The only thing I prefer is the paycheck.
Most women prefer circles of sharing to pyramids and hierarchies. They prefer conversation to construction. They will usually choose nurturance and empathy over competition and climbing. They will normally choose connection over simple performance games.
I'm definitely a child of the 21st century and I prefer texting to phone calls, but I would prefer an answering machine over all.
My gift was in comedy. I found out I could make jokes. I could tell jokes. I could write them. So over the years, that's what I've done.
What I'm doing in the work I do, I prefer not to just have a series of jokes. It's nice when audiences can connect with the characters as well.
I use mother-in-law jokes, kid jokes, tax jokes - anything that works.
The same sports sayings seem to be used over and over again. If you have your own favorite sport saying and would like to share it, or possibly a story you would like to add please continue to our contributor page.
I had no desire to get up onstage and tell jokes. I prefer to stand next to really funny people.
Prefer the familiar word to the far-fetched. Prefer the concrete word to the abstract. Prefer the single word to the circumlocution. Prefer the short word to the long. Prefer the Saxon word to the Romance.
There are two kinds of jokes - funny jokes and Jack Benny jokes.
I don't ever want to get boxed in, playing the same characters, over and over again. That's why I prefer features over television.
People would say, "Oh, you say you just do jokes." I don't just do jokes. I do jokes. Jokes are important. They saved my life when I was younger. Hopefully we're making things nicer at the end of the day for people. That's the entire goal, and that's the touchstone and the North Star for the tone.
