If you get enough sleep, cut back on cigarettes and red meat, you look better the next day — © Robin Wright
If you get enough sleep, cut back on cigarettes and red meat, you look better the next day
If you get enough sleep, cut back on cigarettes and red meat, you look better the next day.
My routine while filming a movie is so basic: wake up, work, shower, sleep. I try to cut all the things that aren't absolutely imperative, so I can be 100 percent when I get to set the next day. I just feel and work better that way.
Half an hour of exercise in the morning makes for better interactions all day. Then a sound night of sleep gives me energy to tackle the next day. I am a more active parent, a better spouse, and more engaged in my work when I eat, move, and sleep well.
Sleep is all about recovering. So if you're not sleeping, you're not recovering. And if you're going to break your body down a lot, you better find ways to build it back up. And the only way to do that is get a lot of sleep. So for me, I go to bed at like 8:30, 9:00. As soon as I put my kids to bed. Because I'm up at 5:30 the next day.
It's an industry of lonely people in a crowd, Bill Margold was saying. 'They're scared to get close to each other. You're far better off having someone to sleep next to then having someone to sleep with because you have to trust someone you sleep next to.
I go to sleep at night, wake up the next day and get straight back to the gym.
If you step back and look at the data, the optimum amount of red meat you eat should be zero.
I'm still learning who I am. One minute I have black hair, the next it's red. One day I'm wearing Converse sneakers, and the next I'm in the hippie look.
If somebody says no to you, or if you get cut, Michael Jordan was cut his first year, but he came back and he was the best ever. That is what you have to have. The attitude that I'm going to show everybody, I'm going to work hard to get better and better.
The blacks have their parties, hustle a little liquor, get some things together, and I used to play for those peoples. They'd come get me on time, but they wouldn't bring me back on time... Done picked cotton all day, play all night long, then pick cotton all day the next day before I could get a chance to sleep.
My work is very dear to me, and certainly I have had all the emotional highs and lows that go with trying to get it to an audience. But I do have some kind of detachment that seems somewhat unusual in my trade. I'm a writer who writes every day. I don't have a period of months where I can't get anything done and I wander around tearing my hair out. When I come back from a book tour, for instance, I might have one day where I sleep late and then check my e-mail, and then go for a walk, and then the next day I'm really itching to get back at writing a story.
For the Anglo-Saxons, meat was the main meal of the day, which revolved around 'before-meat' and 'after-meat.' But it has ended up as the metaphor for the most basic: 'meat and potatoes' is as far from sassy - from 'sauce' - as you can get.
I have significantly cut down on the amount of red meat I eat.
I don't do anything but sleep, when I'm not working. I have no life. I'm no fun. All I want to do is sleep and get ready for the next day. It's awesome.
My brain is always whizzing around with worries: could I have done an interview better? Have I prepared enough for the next one? If it's really bad, I'll listen to an audiobook or use the Headspace app, and then my brain usually goes back to sleep.
Don't say you're going to stop eating red meat when you like red meat.
