If you're running because you want a job that's prestigious or because you have this vague knowledge that you're better than everybody else, you're easier to beat. — © Roger Ailes
If you're running because you want a job that's prestigious or because you have this vague knowledge that you're better than everybody else, you're easier to beat.
I admired the tournament system because it brings some reality to the game. You had to beat everybody to get your title shot. It wasn't something random, you got there because you beat everybody else.
People write because it seems like it'll be an easier job than carpet laying, that they might meet more girls. And they write because the world strikes them as being a marvelous place, and they want to keep bringing that to everybody's attention. You know ~ a scary place, a menacing place, an exciting place because it's scary and menacing. But mainly, kind of glorious.
See, every thing in show business is a lie. It ain't all it's cracked up to be. You are in situations where you are forced to think that you are better than everybody else because of the pedestal the fans place you on. It's a lie. This is just a job, a high-profile job. You have to keep that in perspective and not get caught up in the hype.
I'll kind of tend to beat myself up because I just want it to sound better than better.
When the students were asked to identify their race on a pretest questionnaire, that simple act was sufficient to prime them with all the negative stereotypes associated with African Americans and academic achievement. If a white student from a prestigious private high school gets a higher SAT score than a black student from an inner-city school, is it because she’s truly a better student, or is it because to be white and to attend a prestigious high school is to be constantly primed with the idea of “smart”?
Not everybody here is rich. Not everybody here is independently wealthy. Not everybody here is free from any kind of economic concern. We run the gamut here, too. It's the opportunity to escape that that exists here, for very specific reasons. But it's not because the US is where it is. It's not because our DNA is different than anybody else's. It's because of the way we have structured our affairs, our government.
When approaching the small things, you have to know, 'If I do my job, it's going to make the job easier for everybody else.'
WCW wasn't what I thought it should be. I thought it could be better. I would make suggestions, but nobody would want to hear them. They think you want their job. Please. It would be easier doing their job because they're used to doing nothing.
People always put me completely out of the game, and that's even nicer because nobody expects you to do a good job and then you do a better job than everybody thinks and it's nicer.
If you would like to write better than everybody else, you have to want to write better than everybody else. You must take an obsessive pride in the smallest details of your craft. And you must be willing to defend what you've written against the various middlemen - editors, agents and publishers - whose sights may be different from yours, whose standards not so high.
Why do you want to become an author? I will accept only one answer. If it is because you feel you can write better than you can do anything else then go ahead and do it without frills and flourishes. Stick to your present job and write in your spare time: but do it as if it is a whole time job.
And I want to do it the right way, like everybody else, not just a famous figurehead that gets a job because he is a famous basketball player. I want to really learn the business.
If the government is covering up knowledge of aliens, they are doing a better job of it than they do at anything else.
I was a very shy character, always feeling uncomfortable because everybody was stronger than I, and always afraid I would look like a sissy. Everybody else played baseball; everybody else did all kinds of athletic things.
Go out and face the world secure in the knowledge that everybody else thinks they are better looking than they are as well.
My only advice is to try to get the job that's most like the job you want, rather than the one that's more prestigious. Always try to be the talent.
