As a left-wing campaigner for 35 years, I've been arrested on picket lines, led anti-imperialist demonstrations and spoken at anti-deportation protests outside police stations. I've made speeches at street rallies, in prisons and universities and at pubs.
Parenthood is an endless series of small events, periodic conflicts, and sudden crises which call for a response. The response is not without consequence: it affects personality for better or for worse.
It no longer matters who consider themselves the masters of events. Events no longer obey their masters.
On clay, you know that you have much longer rallies, and you must run for maybe two or three hours.
The science [of global warming] is beyond dispute... Delay is no longer an option. Denial is no longer an acceptable response
We are communal beings who love to get together in groups and share emotions - like sporting events, rock concerts and political rallies. We crave tribal membership.
There haven't been organized protests, but I have heard of protests where people have wanted to celebrate Halloween.
I do not lead the Hong Kong protests, because no one person leads the protests.
