If a trip is worth taking, members of Congress should be prepared to justify paying for it out of their office accounts. — © Russ Feingold
If a trip is worth taking, members of Congress should be prepared to justify paying for it out of their office accounts.
As Members of Congress, we should not be using public office for private gain.
Everybody complains about pork, but members of Congress keep spending because voters do not throw them out of office for doing so. The rotten system in Congress will change only when the American people change their beliefs about the proper role of government in our society. Too many members of Congress believe they can solve all economic problems, cure all social ills, and bring about worldwide peace and prosperity simply by creating new federal programs. We must reject unlimited government and reassert the constitutional rule of law if we hope to halt the spending orgy.
I'm never running for office. I love being able to speak to members of Congress or members of the Senate and floating on either side, because it takes all of us. It's going to take both of them.
Why should DMK align with Congress after blaming the Congress of taking revenge on it for the 2G scam, which caused the exchequer a loss of Rs 1.76 lakh crore. Why should Congress take revenge? Does that mean the Congress did not get its due share from the DMK?
I've never had it so good in terms of taxes. I am paying the lowest tax rate that I've ever paid in my life. Now, that's crazy. And if you look at the Forbes 400, they are paying a lower rate, accounting payroll taxes, than their secretary or whomever around their office. On average. And so I think that actually people in my situation should be paying more tax. I think the rest of the country should be paying less.
I was never strategic really, but back when I was starting out no one cared. In the acting community, box office didn't matter. I really think it was a mistake when they started paying people like $20 million to do a movie because now it's all people think about. Is she worth it? Is he worth it?
Ex-convicts prepared the eggs for the White House’s Easter Egg Roll. It’s nice to see the White House reaching out to former members of Congress.
It took six weeks of debate in the Senate to get the Arms Embargo Law repealed--and we face other delays during the present session because most of the Members of the Congress are thinking in terms of next Autumn's election. However, that is one of the prices that we who live in democracies have to pay. It is, however, worth paying, if all of us can avoid the type of government under which the unfortunate population of Germany and Russia must exist.
If God thinks this state of war in the universe a price worth paying for free will...then we may take it it is worth paying.
For Members of Congress, we are saying here on the Democratic side of the aisle we are not going to vote for another pay increase for Members of Congress until the American people get an increase.
When I first ran for Congress, I decided that I would not take pledges to vote for or against any issue. I believe the practice of taking pledges contributes to the worst of the partisan gridlock in Washington, preventing many members of Congress from even considering a reasonable compromise offered by the other side.
How many members of Congress go face the people in a town meeting and are prepared to answer questions from the floor. That to me is the real litmus test.
I support efforts to limit the terms of members of Congress, especially members of the House and members of the Senate.
Does the end justify the means? Or should it be, Do the ends justify the mean; do the extremes justify moderation?
I made a mistake. I should've had two accounts, one for personal and one for office. And I didn't, and I take responsibility for that.
We should be all be treated equally under the law. Why should members of Congress be in Obamacare and not the president?
