A lot of times [in the movie industry], women are relegated to playing the wife or girlfriend or daughter.
I try not to blame the public, because the public - men, especially - have seen not great portrayals of women in supporting roles, because they're not given the lead roles a lot of the time. Especially in comedy, they're relegated to the adversary, which is like "the mean girlfriend."
Women have a mother-nature and a daughter-nature; there are no women with a wife-nature. The quality of wife is an acquired character; it is a combination of mother and daughter.
There aren't a lot of movies being made about women, period. Most of the time, the roles that are available are the sidekick, the friend, the girlfriend or the wife, and they just aren't that interesting.
I think there are great roles for women in television because there is time to allow those characters to evolve. Even if you're the wife or the girlfriend or whatever it is that we women are, playing those things on TV, they are much more drawn out and there are greater arcs for the role. The roles are more integral to the complexity of the story.
I think a lot of times for women, especially in this industry, we're forced to do things for beauty that aren't good for what we already have.
The martial arts genre a lot of times has been relegated to B-level action.
For me it's about the character, not as much about the genre of it [movie]. I'm excited that I get to work and play interesting characters and I'm not just the girl who gets to play the girlfriend or the wife. I get to play real women who have struggles and troubles and passions and that's always what I hope to do no matter what format that lies in.
Derogatory against women - it seems that Trump is not too keen about having women around him, maybe except for his wife and daughter.
The movie industry is failing women. And until the industry starts making serious changes, nothing is going to change.
I was raised by strong women, and that DNA is in my daughter and wife.
In recent times it just seems that women have been relegated to either romantic roles or fluff pieces. So the appeal, for me, is to make a picture about a real woman.
I think the best thing you can do when you go and see a movie is to bring somebody along who really enjoys the film with you. I think this is one of those movies... it wouldn't be their first choice. But once they're in there and they see the enjoyment that not only they're getting, but also their wife or their girlfriend then it makes for a much more pleasant evening after the movie!
When you're relegated to go from movie to movie, so much of what you're doing is out of your control beyond creating the product.
I cannot just do things without thinking. I have a wife and daughter to think of at all times now.
A lot of the things I get sent are the girlfriend or the wife or the assistant, and those are not that exciting to me.
It wasn't my intention in going after this part but I suppose now I do. The adult roles are a lot meatier - you're not always just the daughter or the girlfriend or whatever.
