Just because something is easy to measure doesn't mean it's important. — © Seth Godin
Just because something is easy to measure doesn't mean it's important.
Just because something doesn't last forever, it doesn't mean it wasn't meaningful while it did last. It doesn't mean it wasn't important.
In most schools, we measure children on what they know. By and large, they have to memorize the content of whatever test is coming up. Because measuring the results of rote learning is easy, rote prevails. What kids know is just not important in comparison with whether they can think.
Just because something might not have a deep philosophical meaning doesn't mean it's not important or relevant.
Just because you can measure everything doesn't mean that you should.
You always measure success by what you did last. It's hard to measure that because it's something that just comes. If someone can just make a hit, they would do it everyday. But you can't make a hit that you know is a hit every day.
It's always been important to us to be original, which sounds really easy when you say it. Everyone says it all the time, but it's actually not that easy to be original. It's also something scary because if you're doing stuff that doesn't sound like anything else, I think a lot of people get scared of that. A lot of people tend to follow instead, they wait for something else to do something new and then they follow that. We just don't like to do that.
Regarding the mantra..."There is no overtraining" Just because you can handle large amounts of volume doesn't mean it's needed. That's the crux of the issue. Just because the body can tolerate something doesn't mean it's a necessity for progress. This is simply poor logic.
Twitter is like hugging. Just because it's hard to measure the return on investment doesn't mean there isn't value there.
It's just easier to talk about product attributes that you can measure with a number. Focus on price, screen size, that's easy. But there's a more difficult path, and that's to make better products, ones where maybe you can't measure their value empirically.
I've built up such a thick skin. It's very easy to take one comment - whether it be a really mean comment that digs deep or just something rude - and really run with it. It's so easy: if there are 100 comments, and 99 are nice, you just run with the bad one.
Measurement is fabulous. Unless you're busy measuring what's easy to measure as opposed to what's important
I always thought if you really want to be a good actor, you've got to be able to fart in public. That, to me, is the most important. If you are so inhibited that you can't fart, I don't mean around your friends, I mean just a fart, out loud somewhere. I don't mean the 'silent creeper', everybody does that. I mean fart out loud! Just that you can do it and not be afraid of it. Humility is very important.
We can't value only what is easy to measure; measurable outcomes may be the least important results of learning.
I'm very proud of 'Gavin and Stacey,' but I think I have to write something else even to start to consider myself a writer. Just because you do something once, it doesn't mean that's who you are. I played football last night; it doesn't mean I'm a footballer.
The thing you can't measure is someone's heart, someone's desire. You can measure a 40, his vertical, his bench press, and that might let you know things like, yeah, he can jump high. But desire, his dedication, his determination, that's something you can't measure. That's something you can't measure about Rod Smith.
Just because we don't understand why they'd cover up something doesn't mean they aren't," Bobby said, and we both turned to look at him. "Now you just sound paranoid," I said. "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you," Bobby said with an expression so serious that I couldn't help but laugh.
