A Court of equity knows its own province. — © Sherrilyn Kenyon
A Court of equity knows its own province.
No one yet knows what a man's province is, and how far that province, as conceived of today, is artificial.
A Court of equity can mould interests differently from a Court of law; and can give relief in cases where a Court of law cannot.
When projects like a pipeline are imposed on a province without a buy-in, without a collaborate approach, they just don't go ahead. What happens is they get caught up in court, there's court challenges, the project doesn't proceed.
But the Supreme Court does not make sweeping changes in constitutional law by accident, or by its own design. Rather, the Court is limited to deciding the cases that the parties ask the Court to decide.
It is my province to teach to the church what the doctrine is. It is your province to echo what I say or to remain silent.
I dared not trust the case on the presumption that the court knows everything. In fact, I argued it on the presumption that the court didn't know anything.
We should strengthen the faith of our people in their own future, the faith of every Canadian in Canada, and of every province in its sister province. This faith wrongs no one; burdens no one; menaces no one; dishonors no one; and, as it was said of old, faith moves mountains, so I venture reverently to express my own belief that if the difficulties of our future as a dominion were as high as the peaks of the Alps or Andes, yet that the pure patriotic faith of a united people would be all sufficient to overcome and ultimately to triumph over all such difficulties.
I'm struck by the fact that by and large equity capital doesn't play a big role in new financing; it's either bonds or internal financing but not really equity. And therefore, it's not clear that anything which improves the equity markets has really much to do with the productivity of the economy as a whole.
We really wake up every day trying to build businesses. That is the goal of private equity. It's a misnomer out there that private equity profits by shrinking companies. In fact, it's just the opposite. Private equity creates value by growing great companies.
To gain your own voice, forget about having it heard. Become a saint of your own province and your own consciousness.
We often imagine that the court serves as a sort of neutral umpire controlling the warring political branches. But this is mostly myth. The justices of the Supreme Court are themselves actors in the struggle for power, and when they intervene, they think carefully about how their decisions will affect the court's own legitimacy and authority.
The House of Commons has the undoubted rights to expel members for misconduct. This is an absolute authority which cannot be challenged in any court, as it derives from the twin concept of the High Court of Parliament being the most senior court in the land and of each House's right to regulate its own affairs.
My obsession is to provide food and jobs to people in Tarlac. The province is primarily an agricultural province; food security tops the priority.
Science is the special province of the ego. And magic and art are the special province of something else. I could name it, but I won't. It prefers to be unnamed
Equity knows no difference of sex. In its vocabulary the word man must be understood in a generic, and not in a specific sense.
Equity mutual funds are the perfect solution for people who want to own stocks without doing their own research.
