A Quote by Sonny Rollins

Improvisation is the ability to create something very spiritual, something of one's own. — © Sonny Rollins
Improvisation is the ability to create something very spiritual, something of one's own.
It was very important to me to create something that would create a legacy. I wanted to do something that had the ability to earn billions of dollars - like really had the ability to do that.
Common sense says that if something possessed the ability to create itself from nothing, then that something wasn't nothing, it was something - a very intelligent creative power of some sort.
Sometimes people that are very good at improvisation in life, meaning like stage improvisation, aren't good in films because you have to ultimately take a scene where it needs to go. It's not about just saying something that's funny. You can say something funny but if it's not on story or driving the scene to its end it's really not very helpful at all.
There is something that is much more scarce, something finer far, something rarer than ability. It is the ability to recognize ability. The sternest comment that can be made against employers as a class lies in the fact that men of Ability usually succeed in showing their worth in spite of their employer, and not with his assistance and encouragement.
There is something that is much more scarce, something finer far, something rarer than ability. It is the ability to recognize ability.
I think if a man can create something like an atom bomb, he can surely create something with his own mind.
I have such deep appreciation for artists who have the ability to create something from within, something completely unique and original to each piece of work.
There's something very... spiritual about fighting. It's physically very challenging. It's for killing people, after all, so it's taught me how to look at something head on. It's like living - confronting something. Everything for me came from films.
The world is a slightly better place for having improvisation in it than it was before. There's something about it that says something positive about the human spirit, that a bunch of people can get together and by following a few simple traffic rules can create art and can entertain an audience and can thrill and exalt each other.
But business is just a vehicle for transforming the ideas in your head into something real, something tangible, that actually improves the lives of others. To create something unique and beautiful and valuable is very hard. It’s very special to do. It doesn’t happen fast.
I use improvisation as a writing tool to help produce material that goes into a script, but a well-crafted script shouldn't sound scripted, and oftentimes people confuse something that looks like improvisation for what is actually a very well-written script that is well-acted.
I look for something universal in songs rather than something personal. I look for something that will give us a platform for live improvisation.
There is something that is much more scarce, something rarer than ability. It is the ability to recognize ability.
There is a spirit in all music, the spirit has the ability to conjure up thoughts even pictures of something that happened or you wished would happen or you anticipate happening. Music has the ability to create ideas in you and me. It has the ability to encourage us to be creative.
It's very reassuring and spiritual to be connected with something larger than yourself and the inside of your own head.
What people think improvisation is and non-improvisation is, it's nothing to do with what you like or dislike. It's all about how it happens with certain directors and certain scenes. That's the way it works. It's not something, in general, that you can decide.
