A Quote by Stephen Sondheim

For anyone approaching any one of the cast albums, if they don't like what they hear, it's not the performer's fault. — © Stephen Sondheim
For anyone approaching any one of the cast albums, if they don't like what they hear, it's not the performer's fault.
I hate albums that are really happy. When I am really happy, I don't like to hear happy albums, and when I am really sad I don't wanna hear happy albums... and I tend to gravitate towards the lonely and isolated anyway when I write.
I'm not here to cast aspersions on anyone. I'm trying to unify the party, not find fault.
There's a lot of important issues being brought to the world about America's role in proliferating weapons, about the lack of responsibility of anyone in authority in this country, you have the torture program, that NSA surveillance is Edward Snowden's fault, just like proliferation of weapons is these kids' fault. It's ridiculous, there's never any consequences, there's never any lessons learned.
I don't want my kid to hear any of the albums that I've made.
Canadian comedians are generally more well-rounded... They have to do a lot more. In order to have a career in this country, you have to do everything. And in the States you can narrow-cast, you can be just a sitcom performer or a stand-up comedian or a sketch performer.
I didn't want to admit that I was a performer. A performer meant spotlights - a performer had connotations of theater. I would have preferred agent to performer.
Never allow anyone to rain on your parade and thus cast a pall of gloom and defeat on the entire day. Remember that no talent, no self-denial, no brains, no character, are required to set up in the fault-finding business. Nothing external can have any power over you unless you permit it. Your time is too precious to be sacrificed in wasted days combating the menial forces of hate, jealously, and envy. Guard your fragile life carefully. Only God can shape a flower, but any foolish child can pull it to pieces.
I would sit in class, and I would just cry. Like I don't even know why. It wasn't my school's fault. It wasn't anyone's fault. I just didn't like the environment. I totally had too much on my plate. At this point I wasn't even doing YouTube yet, mind you.
It is assumed that when anyone gets into debt, the fault is entirely and always the fault of the lender.
When you have a movie that has big stars in it... like, Will Smith does a great job in 'I Am Legend,' and it's a magnetic performance, but he's always Will Smith. That's not his fault. That's not anyone's fault. He's the center of it, and he's a movie star. But when you see something like 'Jurassic Park,' Sam Neill is Alan Grant.
If you hear my idea but don't believe it, that's not your fault; it's mine. If you see my new product but don't buy it, that's my failure, not yours. If you attend my presentation and you're bored, that's my fault too.
With my first three albums I did everything on my own. It was what I was used to and where I felt comfortable. I would write the lyrics and music and hide the songs from everyone until I felt confident enough for anyone to hear them.
What are more delightful than one's emotions when approaching a trout stream for the initial cast?
The first nine albums there was never a Synthesiser, never any Orchestra. There was never any other player except us on the albums.
I spent summers in my room listening to cast albums, like 'Les Miserables,' every night. I knew it backwards and forwards. I want to be the first black Jean Valjean.
I started running to different albums, and I was starting with the short albums and moving on to the longer albums. I was interested in how they built up, in tempo and intensity. it made me interested in albums again, too.
