I like hooks and choruses, things people can sing to.
Right after high school... the first time I ever recorded music was with a rapper, a friend of mine, and I would just be like, 'I'll sing your choruses.' So I would sing his hooks and he would go in there and rap.
My songs aren't built around choruses or hooks or anything like that. That's kind of how I write screenplays too.
What we're most known for is the catchy choruses and the big hooks.
I feel like I was always singing. Since I could speak, I could sing. It came very naturally. In school, I was always singing in choruses and choirs. I always loved to sing; it was something to fun to do.
I write my own lyrics completely on my own. Sometimes I have people helping me with concepts or like choruses and stuff sometimes, but mostly I write all my own songs by myself, especially the verses and a lot of the choruses.
The choruses are important for me. I want to say something, and sing-along is great.
With me having this raspy voice, people always asked when I was going to sing on a song. When I was going at it with 50, people were saying I don't sing on my own hooks. That always stuck in my head and people always told me I had to use my own voice not just to rap.
I like structuring verses, choruses, but sometimes the verses might be a tango and the choruses might be death metal.
I like having big hooks and big records and sing-a-longs.
I like things all shined up and rocking with hooky pop choruses.
Dates are convenient hooks on which we can hang our memories of events. But history is all about people - people like you and me who did things to change the world.
There are so many people that do things better than I do: dancing, singing like a black girl, singing country. Or if, while they sing, they move their arms in and around their crotch; when I sing, I play the piano and look like a little choirgirl. I'd like to mix it up like that.
I would sing at home. I would sing in the car with my dad, but whenever he tried to make me sing in church, I was like, 'Nah, I'm not doing that.' I didn't want to sing in front of all these people.
Some shows feel very reverent - when you're in a seated theater, no one really sings. I love it when people sing! I wish people would sing all the time. Because one of my favorite things when I get to do as a musician is step away from the microphone and listen to everyone sing together.
Some people can sing, and they can sing sing, but Brandy can not only sing sing, but she has a voice and a tone that is unlike any other.
Only a handful of people are honest when they sing. A lot of people sing about very vague things, or they'll sing about someone breaking up with them, but a lot of people don't go too deep into their past and stuff, because they don't want it to be let out. I just do it anyway.
