I enjoy performing different roles. I never want to get stuck with one character.
I'm very fortunate that I get asked to do very different kinds of roles and I realize how much I enjoy that. I enjoy the challenge of transformation. There are actors who play one character, or a certain kind of character, the whole of their lives. I really relish the opportunity to have the challenge to totally transform.
I want to do different roles and not get stuck in a rut and 'Shanghai' will be one film I'm absolutely looking forward to.
I didn't want to do character roles because when you are doing comic characters, you only get character roles.
I never want to play the same character twice. I like to do different roles. I have fun with that.
You want to be challenged, so you feel like you want to get up and wrestle with the character or enjoy the character - especially with a TV show, because you know you could be doing it for a long time, so you want to make sure it's something you really enjoy.
I love that I'm a character actress and get to do so many different and interesting roles. There's really no reason that I can't continue on forever, because I've never been typecast as one thing.
I want to do everything and not get stuck with just one type of roles.
Ninety percent of my roles, I've had to fight for. It's only a really small percentage of people who get handed roles. But that can be quite scary. The good thing about auditioning is that you get to test yourself and see if you can play this character - you're also auditioning yourself. I enjoy seeing what the chemistry is between the people you might be working with.
I'm a character actor and that's what I do. All the roles that I've had have been mainly support roles, because character actors don't usually get the lead in movies. It rarely happens.
I wouldn't want to be associated with one character, because I want to be able to do different roles.
It's fun to get away from myself for a while when I take on these roles that have very different personalities from my own. I get to say things I normally wouldn't say or act in ways I normally wouldn't act. After all, such roles are more challenging because you really have to immerse yourself in the character.
I enjoy being a character actor; I enjoy being different in everything. I want a private life; I want to be able to go to 7-11 and not get into a fight with a guy because he saw me in a movie, or not have people hitting on me simply because they saw me in a movie.
I want as much as I can to try and explore different roles and different characters; that's important to me to get involved in as many different parts as I can.
I didn't want to get stuck in pretty, public school roles, or I knew I'd end up as some sort of caricature.
I've been really fortunate that my concert career has taken off hugely. I can make a living. I enjoy performing in front of a live audience, and I can do something different every time. Sometimes I'm with a quartet, sometimes I'm solo, sometimes with a symphony, and I get to go to different cities and meet different people.
For a long time I did not want to do television because I did not want to get stuck playing the same person. I wanted the ongoing challenge of a variety of roles.
