I think back to my time when I was skating: I was 15, and there was no such thing as Instagram.
There're two different kinds of skating. There's the style skating, and there's the trick skating. He (Tony Hawk) does the trick skating so heavy duty, that he can overcome the style skating. There's always the chance that the style skater can come back, but the whole deal really is learning tricks.
I would never even think about skating with somebody else. The whole reason I wanted to come back to skating was to be close to Tessa again, and to share those moments.
Tom is back on a flight at 6:15 P.M. That is 6:15. Do you get it? Not 6:00 P.M. but 6:15 P.M. And do you know how many minutes that is? I do. I have also become a Time Lord.
Injuries are a huge thing for skating. I think skating is a very unnatural sport for the body, very tough on the joints.
I think having a back-up plan is never a bad thing. I would hate to be a male footballer and look back on 15 years of my career and think, 'Oh well, I've got a lot a money but what now?'
I think that there's a sense of self-reliance that exists in skateboarding that kids can take to their daily lives. I think there's also a sense of creativity and community-based goals - in skating, even though it is an individual pursuit, a lot of things that you learn are things that you borrow and expand from other people's ideas. I call skating a combined evolution - it's individual, it's artistic, but at the time, there is a communal push to keep doing your thing. And a sense of camaraderie in that.
I think I was around 15 when my Dad was 40 and thought, "Man he's old. There's no way I'll be skating at that age."
I grew up figure skating, and in figure skating there is only a handful of black people at the time figure skating with me.
One thing about skating that I don't think people focus on enough is the music factor. The music is a huge component of figure skating. It can dictate not only the choreography but the emotion. If it's not the right music it can ruin a performance.
Right now it looks like skating is done for me. I'm ready to move on. But if baseball doesn't work out and I still have that itch for skating, I may be back.
I stopped amateur skating competitively when I was 15.
We came back. We didn't have to. It was for us. And I think there is power to that. We're doing this because we love figure skating, because we love ice dancing with each other. It's a crazy thing to say, but that's why.
It seems like yesterday I was up there watching my first NHL game, and I was skating on the ice this time. It brings back memories, but at the same time it's something I'll remember forever.
It's crazy to think that back when I was 11 years old I was skating X Games.
I think the biggest thing is that I have fun with the fans on Twitter and Instagram and at the show. It's a fun time to be able to communicate with all the different types of social media stuff.
I was looking at my Instagram, and someone said to me, 'Who manages your Instagram?' I would never let anyone manage my Instagram! I enjoy it.
