Poets are like the decathletes of literature.
In the world of poetry there are would-be poets, workshop poets, promising poets, lovesick poets, university poets, and a few real poets.
To a large extent, the problems of poets are the problems of painters, and poets must often turn to the literature of painting for a discussion of their own problems.
We have to lie to ourselves as decathletes and say that we like all ten events.
