Create more value than you capture. — © Tim O'Reilly
Create more value than you capture.
Creating value isn't enough - you also need to capture some of the value you create.
The thing we should all be looking for are people who want to make a difference. I'm a big believer in the Silicon Valley religion of the power of markets. But I also believe in our obligation to give back, and to give back in the way we do business, to create more value than we capture for ourselves.
Try not to become a man of success, but a man of value. Look around at how people want to get more out of life than they put in. A man of value will give more than he receives. Be creative, but make sure that what you create is not a curse for mankind.
Successful companies create value by providing products or services their customers value more highly than available alternatives. They do this while consuming fewer resources, leaving more resources available to satisfy other needs in society. Value creation involves making people's lives better. It is contributing to prosperity in society.
There's never been a better time to be a worker with special skills or the right education, because these people can use technology to create and capture value.
In the end an organization is nothing more than the collective capacity of its people to create value.
To be successful, innovation is not just about value creation, but value capture.
Opportunity in war is usually of greater value than bravery... Terrain is often of more value than bravery... Bravery is of more value than numbers.
I'm never more aware of the limitations of language than when I try to describe beauty. Language can create its own loveliness, of course, but it cannot deliver to us the radiance we apprehend in the world, any more than a photograph can capture the stunning swiftness of a hawk or the withering power of a supernova... All that pictures or words can do is gesture beyond themselves toward the fleeting glory that stirs our hearts. So I keep gesturing.
Money is a function of value creation. The more value you create for other people, the higher the sales of your organization.
I think good private equity investors create a lot more economic value than they destroy.
Venture capitalists certainly create value for themselves, but they also singularly create value for the rest of the world.
Business today is more personal than ever. It's about pouring your soul into whatever you create. It's about providing more value than anyone else in the market and focusing on creating strong, honest, and deep connections with your customers.
To speak technically photography is the art of writing with light. But if I want to think about it more philosophically, I can say that photography is the art of writing with time. When you capture an image you capture not only a piece of space, you also capture a piece of time. So you have this piece of specific time in your square or rectangle. In that sense I find that photography has more to do with time than with light.
Entrepreneurs create value; I wanted to create ideas that became machines for making value.
We try to reward people according to the value they create, value they create in society and for the company.
