Since I was four, I can't remember wanting to do anything except entertain. And I got some lucky breaks. My daughter Victoria is the same.
When I think back on it, of course I got lucky and got great directors and good breaks but all that was the physical part. But what made me a star was that I could take a chance and not have anything to worry about in terms of losing.
Nobody breaks in a fight and comes back in the same fight. Once you break, you're done for the night. You've gotta go back. You've gotta shower up. You've gotta fly home. You've got to reassess, take three or four months, and try it again. But that Anderson Silva breaks in that fight, and still finds a way to win, is remarkable.
I got some big breaks early on, and the attitude around it was always 'You're just lucky to be here.' No one came out and said that, but that was the clear message. And I felt that way.
I'm not trying to do anything except entertain America.
I was always into music, but I wanted to do film when I was kid. I remember seeing big movies and wanting to do them. Then I was lucky enough to act in some of them, and I fell in love with it.
The State Film Authority will be there for film as industry only, as is the case in all the other states, except Victoria. Victoria is moving more now into supporting non-commercial films.
I've really been extremely lucky. Some people work just as hard, are just as intelligent, and they don't get their breaks. I've just gotten the breaks. Maybe it's good karma.
A lot of people don't remember anything since 'Ice Ice Baby,' but I've got 3 records out since then and they're all successes - but not commercially.
All I know about getting something that you want is that there are three essential things: wanting, trying and getting the opportunity, the breaks. None works alone without the others. Wanting is basic. Trying is up to you. And the breaks - I do know this, they always happen.
People talk about getting lucky breaks in their careers. I’m living proof that the “lucky breaks” theory is simply wrong. You get to make your own luck... The world is run by those who show up…not those who wait to be asked.
An artist is made to entertain. That's their primary goal, to entertain you. But some artists record the moments of time. You wouldn't know what was happening in the '20s and '30s; you got to check the song or art.
My mission of life is to entertain people; same I get entertain from some others life missions.
I will say it is funny that writing a song about not wanting to entertain people is what got me a career in entertainment.
For Christmas when I was about four I got given 'Can the can' by Susie Quatro, so that was the first record I got. And I got Skyhooks "Ego is not a Dirty Word.... I was sorta listening to the Beatles and stuff the whole time since I was about ten anyway, then I started getting into Kiss and David Bowie at the same time
There's four biggies. There was Elizabeth I, George III, Victoria, and the current queen, who really dominated four eras.
My guilty fear is that what I'm doing, probably anyone could do. And that I just got a lot of lucky breaks.
