A Quote by Walter Benjamin

He who observes etiquette but objects to lying is like someone who dresses fashionably but wears no vest. — © Walter Benjamin
He who observes etiquette but objects to lying is like someone who dresses fashionably but wears no vest.
Etiquette? What kind of etiquette was there in someone trying to murder me?
If someone wears something you like, you make comments on it. And if someone wears something we don't like, we make comments on it, too. That's just what guys do, what teammates do. Besides that, we don't really compete in that space.
In Buddhism we have a great deal of etiquette. Etiquette is simply ways of living to conserve energy. Etiquette allows people to live in harmony with their environment.
Sociopaths are not usually physically violent. A typical sociopath never kills anybody and doesn't look like Charles Manson - they look like you and me and everybody else. You're not looking for someone who's recognizably evil or scary-looking, but rather someone who looks normal. Another lynchpin is dishonesty. Lying for the sake of lying. Lying just to see whether you can trick people. And sometimes telling larger lies to get larger effects.
I'm not one who wears a lot of sleeveless tops or dresses.
I'm not really part of that 'L.A. thing' or that celebrity culture. I'm more like someone who observes it, and I can't ever imagine being like that.
The novelty of corsets and dresses and hats very soon wears off.
Everybody in New York, including police horses, dresses fashionably, and whenever I'm there, even in my sharpest funeral-quality suit with no visible ketchup stains, I feel as though I'm wearing a Hefty trash bag. And it's last year's Hefty trash bag.
In all the sciences except Psychology we deal with objects and their changes, and leave out of account as far as possible the mind which observes them.
I didn't get etiquette classes, which is a shame because someone like me needs them.
To sacrifice the principles of manners, which require compassion and respect, and bat people over the head with their ignorance of etiquette rules they cannot be expected to know is both bad manners and poor etiquette. That social climbers and twits have misused etiquette throughout history should not be used as an argument for doing away with it.
I'm not just a big-haired redhead country singer who dresses flamboyantly, has this wicked sense of humor and wears rhinestones.
I like to dress fashionably, it's great.
I like photographing dresses in windows. I actually wore a lot of dresses in the '70s. I like them on other people now.
... yet there is a difference between scientific and artistic observation. The scientist observes to turn away and generalize; the artist observes to seize and use reality in all its individuality and peculiarity.
My pictures are devoid of objects; like objects, they are themselves objects. This means that they are devoid of content, significance or meaning, like objects or trees, animals, people or days, all of which are there without a reason, without a function and without a purpose. This is the quality that counts. Even so, there are good and bad pictures.
