Dying away from home, away from the soil of your birth - and to do so unseen and unmourned - is a profound horror. — © Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor
Dying away from home, away from the soil of your birth - and to do so unseen and unmourned - is a profound horror.
Nobody will protect you from your suffering. You can't cry it away or eat it away or starve it away or walk it away or punch it away or even therapy it away. It's just there, and you have to survive it. You have to endure it. You have to live through it and love it and move on and be better for it and run as far as you can in the direction of your best and happiest dreams across the bridge that was built by your own desire to heal.
Publishing my book is like giving it away. At first you start talking about it, but you are basically letting go. I won't say it's like giving birth because I haven't given birth. It's more like when your children leave home.
Guys, gals, now hear this: No one wants to take away your hunting rifles. No one wants to take away your shotguns. No one wants to take away your revolvers, and no one wants to take away your automatic pistols, as long as said pistols hold no more than ten rounds. If you can't kill a home invader (or your wife, up in the middle of the night to get a snack from the fridge) with ten shots, you need to go back to the local shooting range.
I've been offered TV things over the years, but usually, that's about that I don't want to be away from home for that long, because it's a long time to be away your home country and my family.
As a DJ you spend a lot of time on your own, in airports, away from friends, away from your home. That can have a big impact.
I am away from home and must always write home, even if any home of mine has long since floated away into eternity.
The only thing that burns in hell is the part of you that won't let go of your life: your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away, but they're not punishing you, they're freeing your soul. If you're frightened of dying and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. If you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels freeing you from the earth.
Short of finding a place on the witness protection programme, you don't get many opportunities to completely reinvent your life. Going to university changes that. Away from home, away from parents, away from anyone who remembers you from school, you can pretend to be far cooler and more experienced than you are.
And then away for home! Away to the quickest and nearest train! Away from this cursed land, where the devil and his children stil walk with earthly feet!
I wanted to do 'Fargo' rather than do a TV production. I've been offered TV things over the years, but usually, that's about that I don't want to be away from home for that long because it's a long time to be away your home country and my family.
The only other time I've been away from home was when I went to college. And that was just an hour away, so I could always go home if I needed to.
To see rich land eaten away by erosion, to stand by as continual cultivation on sloping fields wears away the best soil, is enough to make a good farmer sick at heart.
You can run away from home But you can't run away from your pain I sit here alone There's always someone else to blame.
When you give away a little piece of your heart, you're giving away the only thing you can give away, which, after you do, you got more left than you had before you gave some of it away.
I was given away. If your mother gives you away, you think everybody who comes into your life is going to give you away.
Parents' work has shifted markedly around the world - and that goes for every region. Men in particular have been moving away from farmed-based work, and into industrial and post-industrial work - so they've moved away from the home. Women, likewise, have moved into the paid labor force and away from the home.
