Tight ends, third down, and the red zone is where you kind of need to stand out to be a very good tight end in this league.
Like most tight ends I was a pass-receiving tight end coming into the league.
You don't really see tight ends out here doing dances in the end zone. But if you see me at night out on the town, I'm having a good time - I'm always dancing. It started in the backyard, not to necessarily showboat - but to be a showman. It's part of how we grew up, how we played the game, and now that I'm in the NFL, why not break it out?
When I went to the Pro Bowl, I went as a tight end. When I made the All Pro team, I made it as a tight end. When they introduced us and I ran out of the tunnel, they introduced me as a tight end. So how is that possible that now that my career is over, they say, 'Well, he put up stats like a wide receiver?' It's not my fault I was ahead of my time.
When one tight end succeeds, everybody succeeds - like the tight ends were making under $10 million a year. To me that doesn't make any sense.
One should adpot only those situations in which one is in no need of sham virtues, but rather, like the tight-rope dancer on his tight rope, in which one must either fall or stand--or escape.
Here in the Premier League you need to be very quick mentally. Spaces are shorter and the game is much more tactical and tight.
Rick Neuheisel was recruiting me, and he told me something, and I'll never forget it: he said you make your money in the red zone. If you're down there, that's already three points, so don't turn the ball over. I kind of took that to heart, and I'm always very careful in the red zone.
I kick it when I kick it, but I definitely take care of business. I make sure everything is tight, my finances are tight, my family is tight, my friends are perfect.
Women totally dress for women. If we were dressed for men, we'd be prancing around in tight, tight, tight bodycon skirts and tops all day or really simple jeans and T-shirts.
I think I had a good rookie year, but at the end of the day, I want to be one of the best tight ends ever to play, and I'm going to set my standard for that and work toward that goal.
I'm blessed to have such a tight-knit family that we can talk about anything. Whether we talk frequently or not, since we're on separate ends of the country, there are a lot of moving parts, and we always stay tight and find that center ground that keeps us together.
There are a lot of good tight ends.
This group right here is one of the most underrated groups in football. We don’t talk enough about this group. Very smart, they don’t leave the field, they play every single down, and they can cover backs and tight ends out of the backfield. This group is special.
We are in a tight corner, now, I agree. But we have been in tight corners before and come out of them. You have to be brave a little longer.
If you look at the great tight ends in this league, the first thing that stands out is touchdowns. Just like at fantasy football. That's where a lot of guys get the respect, with touchdowns... That's the 'fantasy points' that everyone points out.
Jason Witten will go down as one of the best tight ends in history.
