Anyone over the age of thirty catching a bus can consider himself a failure. — © Zadie Smith
Anyone over the age of thirty catching a bus can consider himself a failure.
A man who, beyond the age of 26, finds himself on a bus can count himself as a failure.
Over and over in the play my character says, "I'm thirty-two years old," as if that should explain everything that's wrong in her life. I don't know what it's like to be thirty-two, but I can imagine. I imagine she means she's stuck in an in-between time, she's at an age that isn't a milestone but more of a no-man's-land, an age where she's feeling like her hopes are fading.
The probability of having some problem with the children is greater when the mother is over the age of 35 but I've never heard anyone suggest that anyone over the age of 35 shouldn't be allowed to have sex.
Not many people are willing to give failure a second opportunity. They fail once and it is all over. The bitter pill of failure is often more than most people can handle. My first artist bus was Jason Aldean's old bus, with deer antlers over the lights and cowhide on the back of the couches. It was such an absolute dude bus.
The slogan was 'Don't trust anyone over thirty'. Sixty years later the slogan became, 'Don't trust anyone over ninety'.
Don't trust anyone over thirty
Don't trust anyone over thirty.
What a shame to be so afraid of failure that you stop living. My wife has a great one-liner about failure: "Never consider yourself a failure-you can always serve as a bad example." She is right. Failure can be a better teacher than success.
The nearest anyone can come to finding himself at any given age is to find a story that somehow tells him about himself.
When we're young, everyone over the age of thirty looks middle-aged, everyone over fifty antique. And time, as it goes by, confirms that we weren't that wrong. Those little age differentials, so crucial and so gross when we are young erode. We end up all belonging to the same category, that of the non-young. I've never much minded this myself.
Life expectancy in many parts of Africa can be something around the age of thirty five to thirty eight. I mean you're very fortunate if you live to that age. In fact when I went to Uganda for the first time one of the things that occurred to me was that I saw very few elderly people.
Women over thirty are at their best, but men over thirty are too old to recognize it
Satan himself can't save a woman who wears thirty-shilling corsets under a thirty-guinea costume.
I used the bus when I was growing up in Brazil. I don't want to diminish anyone who travels on the bus, but I haven't done that for a long time.
The body is most fully developed from thirty to thirty-five years of age, the mind at about forty-nine.
