If we take the time to look deeply, we see that understanding and compassion arise from suffering. Understanding is the understanding of suffering, and compassion is the kind of energy that can transform suffering. Many of the lessons we are to learn in mortality can only be received through the things we experience and sometimes suffer. And God expects and trusts us to face temporary mortal adversity with His help so we can learn what we need to learn and ultimately become what we are to become in eternity.
If we are right with the Lord, then, as we face adversity, we can be assured that we will be blessed with faith, strength, wisdom and help from others, not only to overcome, but to learn and to grow from those experiences.
