Doing voices in animated movies has been one of my dreams. You get to go and act, and you don't have to put on makeup.
I do really like doing animated movies. I like watching animated movies, and I always have. That's something I didn't let go of, from when I was a kid. It's always exciting for me to get to do that. Animated movies are so rarely bad.
What fun that is, doing voices. I would do them every day if they wanted me to. It's so much fun to go to work and not shave and wear your tennis shoes and your gym clothes. As opposed to having to shave, shower, go to the gym, look good, get ready, go to makeup and hair, and all that stuff. I love doing voices. It's just so relaxing.
On an animated movie, I'm learning as I go. There are so many details in animation. Doing the voices was the easy-part. Doing live-action, you have to be on the set, every day.
I've been doing my own makeup since I was 15. I would steal my mom's products, go online, watch YouTube videos of girls doing their makeup, and try.
One of the great things about doing animated movies is that you don't have to dress up or put on make-up.
Well, as I got older and started using makeup, I wanted to use something lightweight under my makeup that wouldn't clog my pores. So I get up in the morning, brush my teeth, wash my face, and do my whole routine. Sunscreen is the first thing I put on before I put on my makeup.
But when I went on the stage to do a show, I would put on makeup because I felt that it enhanced my act; it drew attention to what I was doing.
Early on in my career, I'd go into the makeup trailer, and they'd spend an hour doing my makeup, and I would hate it. I'd go into the bathroom, wash it off and start over again, which took an enormous amount of time. So I just started doing it myself.
I think one of the first things to go as people's lives start to go down is their dreams. Dreams should be the last thing to go - dreams are the things you go down with. If you're left clinging to a piece of driftwood in the middle of the ocean, I'd put on it the word dreams.
I grew up learning from numerous makeup artists how to put on makeup, different ways you can put on makeup, what type of makeup to use, what type of makeup not to use.
I've always enjoyed watching makeup artists - but I'd like to go to the extreme and do monster makeup in movies.
3D is quite a lot more advanced in animated movies; for live-action movies we're just taking baby steps, we're just in the beginning. So when I think of doing that I was very excited. It didn't go as far as I think it should, I'm still a novice, but I think it's fair to say it's a new cinematic medium, experience.
Warner Bros. is really open-minded, as far as studios go, when it comes to the types of movies they'll entertain, even with animated movies. It's a great place to be.
Makeup does a lot for your confidence. When I put makeup on, I walk taller. I smile more. I feel good. I know I look prettier. Even if I just put day makeup on.
I've been doing my own makeup for red carpet events for years, but it wasn't until I met my business partner Divya Gugnani a few years ago that I realized I could actually turn my passion for beauty into a makeup line. We're the opposite of an artistry brand. We're for the everyday women who is very busy and only has 5 minutes in the morning to get ready. So, that's our goal, to really keep you beautiful and gorgeous on the go.
When you look cakey, or you have too much on, and you actually see the makeup, the makeup isn't doing its job. When you use the makeup in a way where the people aren't thinking about the makeup, and they're looking at you, that's what we want.
