A Quote by Maren Morris

Being the everyman in the writing room helps a lot: you have to be a real collaborator and selfless, and not have ego when you walk in there. That's the antithesis of the artist mentality.
Composing easy? I find it easy if - big if - the idea is right, if I have the right collaborator, and if my collaborator is in the room. I like my collaborator to be in the room.
I'm not Brad Pitt or George Clooney. Those guys walk into a room and the room changes. I think there's something more... not average, but everyman about me.
The songwriting community in Nashville really is all about your talent. It's not about your image, and you have to be humble. You have to be kind. You have to have zero ego when you walk into that writing room.
The ego being shattered is not what frightens me - that can be useful for writing - but the ego being inflated is sort of like it dying of gout.
Being a singer is all about me. About ego. Being a mom is all about being selfless - two different worlds.
I think it helps to have a good old-fashioned trajectory, plodding along. Obviously one has an ego and it's really easy to have that ego tickled, but what helps me get through the night is if I concentrate on just quality of work so that I don't panic about my profile.
I am an artist no matter what I do. I live for creativity. I think everyone should. It is the antithesis of being destructive.
For me, it's about surrounding myself with the best, most talented team out there, and not ever being afraid of being the worst guy in the room. It's ego-crushing, yeah. Every day is ego-crushing. But it keeps you sharper than you can imagine.
Look at someone like Kanye West - ego is the death of a lot of art. To believe in yourself that much is to stop being an artist.
When you write the script, you're home in a room by yourself, and you're writing, and there's no connection with the real performing world. So you get a lot of things wrong and make a lot of mistakes and make a lot of bad choices.
Nature gives constantly to us. We as indendepent egos think we're important. Selfless giving has to do with overcoming the ego. The ego makes us unhappy.
It's two different brains: the mom brain that's, like, selfless and ego-free, and the on-stage 'Look at me. Like, listen to my song. Hope you like it.' There, it is all ego.
Selfless giving doesn't mean you let people walk all over you. You get a lot of footprints on your face that way.
And [now] I think I’ll probably write a lot about birds. My new house has a deck that wraps around my writing room; my writing room has many windows, and outside the windows I’ve hung bird feeders … for enticing different species. So I imagine I will be writing about that.
Modelling, it's being an artist as well. It's just being a silent artist. It takes a lot of self-control and a lot of discipline.
Being selfless is not that different from being brave. It is when you are selfless that you are the bravest.
