Actresses in this industry do not talk to one another.
I can't pick one film industry over another because work is work. Actresses are targeted when say prefer one industry over another.
In our film industry I've realised actresses are not respected at all.
I think the beauty of the film industry is that if another person tries to become another person or act like another person or imitate another person, they don't really get too far. When that person starts to realize who they are and what they can bring to the table, they start to blossom and grow. With that, it's not so much me looking towards my predecessors who have paved the way in the industry - it's more getting inspired. I get little bits and pieces of what I can take from any and everybody.
I might not be as successful as other actresses in the industry, but for me I have achieved success.
When actresses play actresses, or actors play actors, they have to find another level.
I think Chris Roberts is one of them, Will Wright's another, Peter Molyneux is another. They clearly exist, but on the whole, I think that the design talent in our industry is dramatically lower than we need, as an industry. It's a very hard skill to learn.
The public want actresses, because they think all actresses bad. They don't want music or poetry because they know that both are good. So actors and actresses thrive and poets and composers starve.
When I signed 'Guide,' my colleagues in the industry said that I was doing a big mistake. They even said that this might be my last film because that was the phase when actresses in the industry were portrayed as submissive women. We used to do love stories or family dramas where women were ideal in every role.
Usually, I'll be auditioning for the third lead, and there will be Latina actresses, Indian actresses, African American actresses because it will be like, 'Let's check off this box. We have our lead white girl, and we need an ethnic slot.'
When you have friends in the industry, you're always expected to talk about work. Seldom do you talk about stuff outside work with friends in the industry. Therefore, I don't have many actor friends, but I find lot of brotherly warmth from a few.
There is this thing in America where actresses reach 40 and go mad. The film industry wants all these young people.
I don't want to follow the map of what the music industry does because I've already lived the industry and I still live the industry so I already understand how it works. The industry doesn't really like us around anyway once we get older because we know too much so, that's fine - cut us off - and we'll find another way to get it out there.
I long for the day where we don't have to talk about our age as actresses.
A ton of little girls I talk to, they want to be actresses or singers or models.
I don't think Indian actors are good. A couple of them are, like Anupam Kher, but not many are there like him in the industry. There are thousand of actors and actresses in the industry, but you can count on hand how many of them are really good; the rest of them are just pretty faces.
I think everyone respects Rock. He's obviously been in our industry his entire life in some form or fashion. He's a guy that works really hard, and most of our performers can appreciate that one way or another, whether it's in the movie industry or our industry.
