Life imitates art far more than art imitates Life.

To begin with, I hold that there is never an end; everything of which our life is composed, pictures and books as much as anything else, is a means only, in the sense that the work of art exists in the body of the movement of life. It may be a strong factor of progress and direction, but we cannot say that it is the end or reason of things, for it is so much implicated with them ; and when we are speaking of art we suddenly find that we are talking of life all the time.

What is art? Art talks about life; it's subversive.

The idea of "making art for art's sake" makes no sense for me. Each area of my life, all the roles I play, influences the others.

In art school we're always taught that art is an end in itself - art for art's sake, expressing yourself, and that that's enough.

So will the voiceless voice be heard and the self be brought into harmony with it.

Art is doing. Art deals directly with life.

I spend my time trying to figure art out. I was brought up to believe that the way one processes information is by making it into art. That's how I live my life.

When the artist produces something he or she relates to it with the eye of an art historian/critic. I have the feeling that when I am working it is more like working with soap opera or glamour. After all, the goal is not making art. It is living a life. Those who live their lives will leave the stuff that is really art.
