I think it's important to wear clothing that means something to you, and so I always try to make sure I'm wearing at least one item that has a personal meaning to me.
My advice is you've got to make sure you wear the clothes and not [let] the clothes wear you. It's quite simple in a way. Don't wear something you totally feel uncomfortable with, but take some chances. Play around a bit. I felt very uncomfortable in suits when I was younger, so what I just started doing was wearing suits when I was going to dinner. I used to overdress a little bit so I got used to wearing suits. Now wearing a suit is like wearing a track suit for me. So it's all good.
To be honest, the piece of clothing from a man's wardrobe I wear most often, to bed and around the house, is my boyfriend's underwear. I think it's infinitely unfair that women are compelled to wear underwear with a comfort factor of zero whilst men stroll around in essentially the most comfortable item of clothing ever made.
I have always loved to create pieces that are special, unique. It's very important to me that the dress means something to someone. I've no real interest in making something that's an everyday item.
Makeup is something that a female has to reckon with every single day. Whether you wear it or don't, you're always making decisions about wearing it or not, or how you're wearing it, and what that means.
I'm always wearing a Nebraska hat. Most of the time I'm wearing something that's got a Husker something on it. I make sure I have it on TV but I have it regularly.
I've always had my own style, I've always been different. I don't like to wear anything that anyone else is wearing because it's very important for me to make a statement.
I think guys don't always realize that clothing that fits is actually more comfortable than clothing that doesn't fit. I think guys do sometimes wear clothing that is too big.
But for me, my personal relations, my personal family relations, are very important, and we've always tried to make sure that the public and the private are kept separate.
My mum told me always to wear heels. If I'm not wearing heels, she says, 'What? You're in flats?' So whenever I see her, I make sure I have heels with me.
Fashion is very much emotional. When you see it, or when you wear the right clothing, or you wear whatever, it's supposed to make you feel something. You're supposed to feel some type of emotion, and I feel like I try to do that when I'm on a red carpet.
It takes a long time for me to just say 'I'm going to get a tat.' I really do my homework on it and make sure that it's perfect and the way I want it and make sure there's always meaning because I never get anything without meaning.
If you put on an item of clothing that hurts just because you have an idea it looks better or conforms to what other people are wearing, it's dumb.
I always go to the lowest common denominator for that ingredient. So if I think squash, I try to think what it means to me -- and if it doesn't mean anything to me, I'm not gonna do well when I cook it. So [squash] means to me: fall, maple syrup, cinnamon, and things just come into your head so you can narrow the vortex and make it a bit smaller and you go with something because there's no time.
People always ask me what the trends are, but I?m not a believer in trends. Individuality is more important to me, to stand out and have the confidence to wear something you?re comfortable in - it just happens I?m comfortable wearing a suit!
It's amazing to think that every item of clothing we wear began as an idea in somebodies head. Whether it's a designer dress or a cheap remake, someone somewhere had an idea and brought it to life.
I think what's important for myself and anyone else who wants to create a film, or art, is [to] make sure that they have something to say, that they want to share something important, express something important.
