The most creative director I have worked with is Mani Ratnam.
One day, I got a call from Mani Ratnam sir's assistant, who said that the ace director was impressed after watching 'Naan' trailer and wanted me to do a cameo in 'Kadal.' I was on cloud nine and my joy knew no bounds. However, I had no other option than to say no since the date required by Mani Ratnam was exactly the release date of 'Naan.'
I started off as an assistant director in Mani Ratnam's 'Ayudha Ezhuthu' and 'Yuva.'
I have worked with acclaimed filmmakers like Shyam Benegal, Mani Ratnam, Anurag Kashyap and Tigmanshu Dhulia.
As much as I love to do commercial films, a touching romantic film like Mani Ratnam's 'Geethanjali' will satiate my creative appetite.
I love Mani Ratnam's movies.
Mani Ratnam is my biggest inspiration.
It is everybody's wish to work with Mani Ratnam.
Suresh Krissna and Mani Ratnam are the ones who made me a superstar.
I consider it a stroke of luck that I got to work with one of my favourite directors, Mani Ratnam.
I worked with three designers in my heydays - Bhanu Aathiya, Shalini Shah and Mani Rabadi. Out of these, Mani was the least assertive and aggressive. I remember Bhanu used to be quite insistent and particular about her fees etc whereas Mani was too soft-spoken.
I was really lucky and blessed to have had the likes of directors such as Mani Ratnam and Rajkumar Hirani in my career.
For me, working on the sets with Mani Ratnam is so familiar. It is the place where I grew up, so I am not nervous here.
After watching 'Pagal Nilavu' I decided Mani Ratnam should be my mentor and joined him.
I've had the privilege to work with fantastic directors - Ram Gopal Varma, Mani Ratnam, Inder Kumar, to name a few.
For any actor, being part of a Mani Ratnam film is a great experience. I grew up watching his films.
Even bigger directors like Mani Ratnam and Ram Gopal Varma have faced flak, that doesn't mean they've shied away from filmmaking.
