I think the corporate world is pretty starved for personality. The reason you have comic strips like 'Dilbert' and sitcoms like 'The Office' is that people just can't be genuine human beings in a corporate environment. So if you can really be your own self, even if it's a little bit different, I think people are really drawn to that.
There are novels that end well, but in between there are human beings acting like human beings. And human beings are not perfect. I notice a lot of people think they can solve their problems with antidepressants. That, I noticed, being like a bigger issue, like, it really strips people of who they are. Like, all your quirks and all your problems, even your depressions and your failures, that's what makes you, you. And there's a lot of drugs out there that will take that away from you.
I used to be very self-conscious. I used to wish I was pretty. My cousin Georgia always taught me that if you smile, people will like you. Sometimes people will say something you don't like, and you get angry a bit, but you just smile. You let it go by, even if you really would like to choke 'em. That doesn't mean it's not pretty or it's not wonderful, and most people don't agree with me, but that's the way I think.
There are certain neighborhoods in America like that - like in Pittsburgh, where I'm from - where people wouldn't think it's even livable for human beings.
