The last thing I want to do... is offend people and ostracize myself. — © John Rocker
The last thing I want to do... is offend people and ostracize myself.
I've spent a lifetime trying not to offend people - that's one thing that Mormons are really good at is smiling and shaking your hand and doing everything they can to not offend you. And I have gotten to this point in life where I don't want to live that way anymore.
I try to live my life as honestly as I can, and the last thing I want is to pretend to be something I'm not. To pretend to myself I am a sex symbol would somehow be dishonest. I'd feel, in my heart, that I were behaving artificially and that's the last thing I want to do.
If I wouldn't offend my religion or God, why would I want to offend an audience because in effect those people are being watched over by the same person.
It doesn't matter how many people you offend, as long as you're getting your message to your consumers. I say to those people who do not want to offend anybody: You are going to have a very, very difficult time having meaningful advertising.
For me, acting is about getting away from myself. So to look at myself is the last thing I want.
I try to bring myself to every role. The last thing you want to seem like to other people is a talking head or an actor reading lines.
I don't take myself as seriously as some people think, and I'd hate anyone to think I was preaching. That's the last thing I want.
In the end, by having a point of view, by taking a stand for things you believe in, you're ultimately always going to offend people. That's good. It's certainly more important to take a stand on some thing and offend people, than to be careful all of your life and have everyone approve of what you do. Or, as my psychiatrist likes to say, better to live one year as a tiger than 100 as a sheep.
What you discover about people you try not to offend is that you can offend them without trying.
We should never intentionally offend, but if you follow Jesus, you will offend religious people.
It's OK to offend people with the Gospel, but, good grief- let's don't offend them with something else.
I don’t care what people think…I learned a long time ago…I was 19 and had a very traumatic experience….and I learned that I have to go to bed with myself at night and that I have to please myself…and as long as I don’t go out of my way to offend anybody that I love, upset my mother or my husband…I’ll do my own thing. And if the public doesn’t like it, it’s their problem, not mine.
Never offend people with style when you can offend them with substance.
The last thing I want to think of myself as is anything different.
I'm such a bad shopper for myself. I love fashion and all that kind of stuff, but that's sort of the last thing I want to do when I'm done with a film is go shopping. I want to just chill.
I put myself in the place of the listener when editing my writing. The last thing that I want to do is be preached at and told who to be or what to think when listening to an artist. However, I do want to be inspired. There's a fine line.
