I'm lucky to be surrounded by incredibly talented people at Pixar, of course, and I learn a lot from them each and every day.
It's incredibly easy as a director to be egotistical. Of course, it is because you have 200 people on set every day listening to your every word and whatever you say goes, and that can be slightly corrupting. And actually, to be a good director, you have to take ego out of it, because hopefully what you've done is surrounded yourself with brilliant people. Let them be brilliant and you just shepherd that and marshal that and hopefully guide it however you can, but definitely not to the extent that you're overbearing.
I hope my talent has something to do with it. I just think this business is so crazy. I obviously do the best I can, and the directors I admire see something in me. But this is a strange business, and there are people who are incredibly talented who never make it, who never get these opportunities. So that's why I say I'm lucky. I don't feel that I'm not talented - I think I am talented - but I also think I'm very lucky.
Oh yeah, I'm the president of the lucky club. There are so many talented people who don't work. And the crop of young actors I'm surrounded by is incredible. When you have people like that around you it amps you up a little bit. Also, Emile Hirsch and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, or guys like Ryan Gosling. It's a really good crowd and I feel I'm coming up at a good time. But equally, there's a lot of good young actors who don't get to work who are more talented than I. I'm just lucky.
When you are surrounded by talented musicians, you learn so much from them.
It's always been very important for me to be surrounded by people. It's never been enough for me to be successful alone. I want to be around people my own age who are also doing things I can learn from. And something Francis Ford Coppola said when we were doing the movie was, "If you learn something about people when you do dinner with them every week, you'll learn a lot more if you play softball with them every week." This is us learning what the climate is creatively among us.
I have people I love and trust on my team. And I'm lucky my family is incredibly talented in a variety of ways.
I think every day how incredibly lucky it is that I travel around the world playing to thousands of people.
Since the first day I filled in on 'Dish Nation,' it felt comfortable and there was a natural chemistry. The amazingly talented personalities that I'm surrounded by every day make me thrive to be better.
I learned that when you're lucky enough to be surrounded by such talented people that you really become more of an orchestrator of this talent - you're just trying to harmonise everyone's contributions.
The only thing better than working for Connor Schell and Kevin Wildes is being able to spend each day with all of the incredibly talented people at 'NBA Countdown' and 'SportsNation.' It's the best job in sports.
Compared to somebody who goes to work every single day in an office from nine til six, I'm lucky. I see my kids every day, I get a lot of time with them.
I'm an incredibly lucky girl. For someone who has made some very foolish mistakes and had some tough lessons to learn very quickly, I am still incredibly lucky.
I've been lucky enough to, for the most part, surround myself with a lot of people who are more talented than me and who I can learn from, and it makes me up my game.
Ambition is important. Of course you can't get anywhere without talent, but there are a lot of talented people. To succeed, you have to be the most ambitious talented person.
There are a lot of people in each spot that you don't really know. I work with them that day, and move on and find new people. So purging and cleansing your friend list every day.
I've been extremely lucky in terms on injury. Very few injuries over the course of, this is the beginning of my 16th year. I know a lot of guys that have had a lot shorter careers and a lot more injuries, so I knock on wood every day.
