Artists are rarely members of the popular crowd.
Why is it that English, drama and music teachers are most often recalled as our mentors and inspirations? Maybe because artists are rarely members of the popular crowd.
I've collaborated with artists that truly run the gamut: from members of the Wu Tang Clan and Capone, to Moby, Lady Gaga, and opening for artists such as Sheryl Crow, Jack White, and Chris Shiflett of the Foo Fighters, etc.
I do not want "Mormonism" to become popular; I would not, if I could, make it as popular as the Roman Catholic Church is in Italy, or as the Church of England is in England, because the wicked and ungodly would crowd into it in their sins.
We've always believed that popular culture and populist politics go hand in hand. It's an honor to be working with so many respected and influential artists, and we're indebted to them for having the courage to speak out at a time when our country so desperately needs change. It is as absurd to expect members of philosophy departments to be philosophers as it is to expect members of art departments to be artists.
I mean, I definitely relate to not being a part of the popular crowd.
What sense or thought do they have? They follow the popular singers, and they take the crowd as their teacher.
I rarely have any contact with the artists who cover my songs.
Now, in music, it seems more like the popular crowd suppresses anyone who is different.
Writers who are activists are very rarely taken seriously as artists.
If some independent artists are using film as a medium to reach out to an audience, it should be promoted. Cinema is a popular medium and has a broad reach. There have been films with ghazals, classical and folk songs sung by local artists, which gave them popularity.
When artists and philosophers talk only amongst themselves, they ignore the potential of popular culture to become a variety of dialogues with and between everyday people. Its discourse may be productive of desire and pleasure, but popular culture is also a language in which people discuss politics, religion, ethics, and action.
Presidents are elected not by direct popular vote but by 538 members of the Electoral College.
I'm an outdoorsman kind of person, so I don't like the buzz of the crowd, crowd, crowd and all that so much. I mean I don't mind it, but I don't seek it out.
Guitar Player' was always the serious musician's magazine. They rarely catered to what was popular. They focused on innovative players.
