People look at film in a gallery, and if they walk out after two minutes they know they haven't seen the whole work. But then people look at a painting for two minutes and think they've seen it. Certain paintings are made to be consumed fast. But some require a slowed-down time. You have to go back to them.
I find it interesting that there are impostors out on the Internet pretending to be Werner Herzog.
I don't ask my students to have studied film or any education in general. What I ask them is to come and sit and tell me a story, and the way they choose it and tell it, for me, the best criteria for whether they are right for making films. There's nothing more important than being able to tell your story orally.
It's a myth that you'll know the box office result of any film. I don't think anybody can predict a film's fate accurately, otherwise nobody would make unsuccessful or flop films.
